In my 20+ years of beer drinking my friends and I have a term for the few onces at the bottom of the bottle that sometimes go unfinished. We call this a Larry. Not sure wny, not sure how it started, it is just the way it has always been. And leaving a Larry is never acceptable.
I recently was at a party with some people I havent been with before and they called it a "clunker". The reason I am told is because of the "clunk" sound it makes when thrown into the recycle bin.
Either way you call it, a clunker or Larry is always frowned upon. Waste not, want not!
Does anyone else call it a Larry or Clunker or is this a regional term? What other names do you use?

In Ireland we used to call that the toenails when referring to a bottle of Buckfast Tonic Wine. (The toenails referring to the monks toenails who would tread the grapes). As for bottles of beer...I don't associate with people who would leave beer in bottles so I've no idea what that bit of beer would be called in Ireland...a disgrace? ---------- Oisin

In high school we called it bongwater. (yeh, beer in high school, who would have thought it)
Now days, with all the unfiltered boutique beers on the market, we call the sludge at the bottom vitamins. "Oh come on you wuss, drink your vitamins"

Why the hell do we call it a Larry? Now I am questioning my whole existence. Nobody else has heard of this? Your names make sense, Larry doesnt at all! Larry must have been a real wuss. The only Larry I really know was the guy from Three's Company and he was no wuss, he was a playa!

Going off at a slight tangent,
I have a colleague whose husband is ex-army. She says he always leaves a little beer in each glass "for fallen comrades".
I don't know if this is widespread, but it seemed like a touching gesture

When I was emptying a bottle once My sister asked if I could "leave some Hiltons" to her.
"Hiltons?" I asked.
"Yeah. Hiltons. Thin and slimy", she replied. Referring, of course to Paris Hilton. I don't know if anyone else in the world calls it that.
