So, by the end of the talk, we hear Hughes basically writing blues lyrics (even repeating the A line). So has anybody taken Hughes "lyrics" and put them to music, or at least ripped off a line or verse for a song? (For example, the line about my love turning into a knife instead of a song is really stealable!) Anybody know?

I am an 80 year old man, who has learned more about myself and my attitudes in the last lesson's than I thought possible. The idea that we tend to create our opinions based on pop media is key. The white middle-class wants to equate blacks with gangsta rap. Of course this is only one view of the world. Blues goes deep, maybe rap will turn out to be deeper than we realize.

bluesman33, did you see the two videos posted by Adam of Mark Anthony Neal in the thread titled jim crow and hip hop (or something like that)? I've only made time to view the first one.
