I recently got 2 harps in the mail from ebay and after cleaning a c MB up it seems the covers are gold colored. Looked silver in the picture and when I got it. Had some tarnish and rust, mostly inside the covers so I pried them off and dropped them in the industrial CLR we use at work.
About half an hour later I took them out and they seemed brass colored. Went at the rusty/pitted areas with 4-o steel wool and rinsed in water. They stayed brass colored. With the rust it seemed like they were steel.

If the box is the original, the Hicksville address puts it after 1960.Are they chrome plated brass covers? Seems too late to have them made of brass. I know the early ones were. Reed plates have 3 nails in the back so I guess between '60-'80. It does play well in spite of the cracked comb(superglue) It does look cool with the gold colored covers though.

As a side note; the other one was an old Blues Harp. The picture was fuzzy to say the least and the front didn't look quite right but for $3 what the hell.
There were no nails holding the top cover on. It was hot melt glued on backwards! Not as neat as the one I saw with duck tape holding them on but unique.

That happens to me all the time when I use CLR. Use a dab of Brasso on the covers and they will shine like silver again...

They shine, but with a gold tint to them. Was going to fix it up for a buddy that wanted a MB but I think I'll look for another for him.
