I saw a commercial that the Harlem Globetrotters were going appear in the area I live. It reminded me how cool the song "Sweet Georgia Brown" is.

I would love to learn it and wondered if it would fit well on harmonica.

I did a search on youtube and found a killer version by our forum comrade Boris Plotnikov.

He really kicks it in at about 3 minutes.

Great job Boris!

Here is one with harp-I love Boris' playing, but the tune in nearly indiscernable. I think this is a more fair representation.

So at the Wednesday night jam that I attend, this tune is called frequently. I'm still trying to figure out my best way to attack it.

What position do YOU use to play this tune?

A more fair representation of what?? Boris is playing a GM diatonic and using overbends..exactly what I was looking for!

Indiscernable?? Very clear what the song is.

tmf714...I'm sorry you do not understand the reasons behind this complimentary thread....or do you and you are just being....never mind. I guess you'll post it on kazoo next.

Again...fantastic job Boris!

Brendan is great, along with Chet Atkins and Stanley Jordan, but I have to note their arrangments are much slower than our arranger/conductor insist.

Jim
Tune chord progression is actually in Ab. But it starts with F chord and then go to Bb chord (with II-V turns), then to Eb than to Ab.

Part A
F9 | | Cm7 | F9 |
Bb9 | | Fm7 | Bb9 |
Eb9 | | Bbm | Eb9 |
Ab9 |Eb9 |Ab6|Gm7b5 C7|
Part A1
F9 | | Cm7 | F9 |
Bb9 | | Fm7 | Bb9 |
Fm9 |Gm7b5 C7| Fm6 | Gm7b5 C7|
Ab9 G7 |Gb7 F7|Bb7 Eb7|Ab7 G7 Gb7|

This is about 3 or 4 years old video, I dislike some nuances of my playing (it's actually too fast to play creative!)
So I play with Bb GM customized by me, I start with 2-nd position for first 6 bars, than for 12 position to bar 9-12, than to 11 position to bars 13-16 etc.

Thanks Boris-that's really all I was trying to point out.
Like I said ,I love your playing, but the tempo was just a little too fast.

Tempo was not my choice. It's choice of our conductor/arranger.

Tmf..you didn't say the tempo was a little too fast.....you said the tune is nearly indiscernable. Why did you thank him...I just don't know why anyone would post a video without typing a few words as to why.

Boris..I had no idea changing positions was needed so much on this tune. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 11th position the root note is 3 draw half step bend, same as 6 ob.....not a position I have really tried. So to play this tune you must overbend or have a type of harmonica that can be played chromatically? I just tackled The Entertainer in 1st position and several overblows wre required.

I know players , especially as talented as you, always find things that they could do better....still, this video is a testimony to what a great player you are.

I look forward to listening to more of your stuff when i have time.

@harpdude61-where in the forum creed does it state we must post a few words after we post a video?
I was mereley pointing out one of the best American versions of the song as perfromed by Chet and Stanley. The tempo was too fast-Boris even admitted it-he has no control over the conducter and the other musicians. Sometimes the european flair on an American tune just doesn't work-this is one example.
