This is a sorta follow-up from my previous tech support post. It appears that I had the pedal order wrong...I contacted BBE, who quickly responded, about my Opto Stomp issues.
First, it was suggested that the Kinder AFB should come AFTER my other effects (but before the M13). I have always, always, always, used it first (I thought I was told to do that, but can't remember as it has been so long). Anyone experiment with that? I found one Harp-L post suggesting that it made the most since even though others had tried it first as well.
Also, and I should have caught this, the Opto is supposed to go AFTER any distortion/overdrive. I had my pedals going Kinder, Opto, Harp Break, M13...it should be, according to BBE, Harp Break, Opto, Kinder, M13.
He felt this should increase volume and maximize the use of all the pedals. I think it makes sense to have the Kinder between the pedals and M13, at least when using the delays, etc.
At any rate, any comments on where in the chain you use your Kinder AFB if you have one? I wager it wasn't really meant to be used with a bunch of effects, but there are enough techie types here that someone should have some input.
That's how I did it too. However, I got an email from someone who had asked John Kinder about this and Kinder said last. I vaguely remember him saying that to me when I bought it. I think I started putting it first when I got my wireless and then never thought to do it differently - until now when I am using more effects.
Mike I've got a rig that's quite close to yours or to J's rig.
My chain usually used to be the following:
Electrovoice Re10 Kinder AFB Opto STomp Boss DM3 ElectroHarmonix Chorus BBE Sonic Stomp impedance adapter and then HG30 or Bassman59
when I started playing at higher volumes ( bigger gigs, louder bands etc ) the clipping problem came out just like it happened to you. Like you I called BBE and Kinder as well. So in the end I simply moved the Opto Stomp right before the Kinder and the clipping disappeared, but I'm almost sure that's something changed in the "colour" of the sound, anyway now it's almost impossible to use the configuration jason is using... but i believe his wireless receiver play a big role lowering the input volume and then avoiding any of those clipping noises I have because of a higher input signal
Thanks! I tried it and there was no clipping. However, still a large volume drop...rather huge. I just turned the volume on the BBE up and it was fine then...but it general, it sounds way better! ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas Updated 2/1/11
