Sammy Lawhorn and Pee Wee Madison were two of the baddest guitar player to have ever played in Muddy's band. In a city filled with great guitar players, Sammy was one of the greatest! Seeing those guys is the highlight of this video for me.

I thought it was from the Gunsmoke Blues documentary.

Didn't Muddy have his hair "processed" in the Gunsmoke doc? Been awhile since I watched it.

I have the same video tmf714 refers to, it's the same footage as posted, Vestapol 13085 is dedicated to the memory of Link Wyler who shot the Gunsmoke documentary, both shot in 71, I don't have the Gunsmoke DVD but footage could be common?

Gunsmoke is not the complete concert, only select songs from the DVD "In Concert".

This review is from: Gunsmoke Blues (DVD)
Although all of the Muddy Waters material have already been released by Vestapol, this new release is a different edit with more audience shots and better sound and picture

Muddy with that much hair is just prior to getting into a bad car accident and after that happened, he kept his hair closely cropped and played mainly seated on the bandstand.

Nobody mentioned that Big Mama Thorton and Big Joe Turner are also featured at least in the Gunsmoke Blues version of this concert. Mama plays some harp in her set. Also the scene in the station wagon with the bearded fellow interviewing Mud comes from this session. Thorton and Turner are seen passing a bottle of Wild Turkey as they ride along. That station wagon interview appears in many different videos about Muddy Waters.
The thing I like most about this concert, other than watching the master play his harps in a backing role, is how George starts kicking the crowd up a notch as Muddy starts to walk off stage. When Mud sees how George has stirred up the crowd, he rushes back and snatches the mic' out of Smith's hand and takes the stage back. Muddy wasn't about to let George Smith upstage him.
Interesting dynamics between two masterful entertainers.
