Can anyone tell me about this amp? Would this sound like a tweed champ? How would you compare this amp to other vintage small amps of the 50's 60's?

Adam just picked one up and posted a thread a few days ago:
http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/894211.htm

Near the bottom are some sweet sound clips of the amp with Adam playing though it. Seems there aren't tons lying around and for one in decent shape it may cost a decent chunk of change. (unless you've stumbled upon a bargain and are posting to see if you should snatch it up!) Good luck with the search.

Thanks..Yes I did find one and thinking about picking it up. What is a fair price for 1 in good shape?
Vintage stuff is so subjective?

I think it will be smoother than a champ. Less trebly!
May sound more like the first vervion. The champion 600 or 800. I'd love to have a champion 800!
In working order I would say between $300 - $800.
$300 being pretty beatup, but works. $800 being perfect once in a life time deal! If its in good shape and you can get it for less than $500. I would if I could afford to do so. If its more than $600 I guess it matters how it sounds and if you can't live without it!
Just some guidlines. Hope this helps and good luck!

If you're talking about the one on evil-bay for $475 I wouldn't touch in for that price

NO, It is not on ebay. So I found out more information. The Amp is in good shape. The Handle at some point got replaced with a old heavier duty handle. It has a 3 prong chord and the original speaker was replaced to either a vintage Rola or Jensen. I am told the amp sounds fatter with the replacement speaker then the original. Is it worth still takign a listen to it. Price is 300.00 possibly 275.00

Would this sound like a tweed champ?

Is a tweed Champ something that you want? If so, why not buy one. There are plenty of them around. There are also used clones (Victoria, Harpgear, Kendrick and probably Clark) that are available that will hold their value.

There are a ton of options for amps around 5 watts.

I would suggest that you play it, if you can. A $300 amp that is need of repair could quickly become a $500 after repairs.

YES! If it sounds good its good. If it doesn't sound good, but works and looks good. For that price its still a good deal! You can have someone make it a good useable amp for $100 - $200.
Worse case senerio you have $500 into an amp that looks and sounds good!

If it works and sound good to you I'd say it's worth $275. The one I have is all original and sound much better to me than any tweed champ I've ever played through. Mine sounds better to me than any of my other amps.

EDIT: if you don't want it pass along the seller info to me...

Yes and $500 opens up a lot of other amplification options.

Looks good. BTW: A friend has a 59 Tweed Champ, paid 500.00 for it ten years ago. Whenever I see one listed I send him a link, to show him how much they've appreciated. The average price for a decent tweed Champ is 1300.00 and up! I say go for the Masco, but figure on sending it to Skip. My Masco is the big brother to this, mine has a 12" Jensen speaker. Skip went through mine twice, told me he hates the combos, (hard to work on) but still the expert!

I don't think you would regret buying it, and you wouldn't have a problem selling it. I have only heard good comments on Masco's being used for harp. Combos or PA amps.

Yeah the tweed champs are rediculously expensive. This amp is not being advertised, I just happened to ask if he had any small amps for sale and this came up. The owner has lots of amps and am sure this one will sound good. Will post a clip when I pick it up.

I agree with shbamac , I would only buy it if it was in good condition. a lot of the vintage amps on ebay are knackered & will never sound as good as they did. You can still find them in excellent condition
