Essery was on the Allman Brothers' ENLIGHTENED ROGUES album and tour ca. 1979. The story at the time was that someone in the band or around it found Essery playing in a pizza parlor and the band hired him. At that point, I don't think they had a strong guitar foil to Dickey Betts, so Essery had a more prominent role than Thom Doucette did, but mainly on newer material. That lineup didn't last long and Essery disappeared off the national radar, much like the way Pat Ramsey did that one record with Johnny Winter around the same time and then "disappeared." I'd forgotten that Essery was probably the first blues harp player I ever saw live, back when the instrument had a lot more rarity and mystique if you didn't live in a harp hotbed.

I only think of doucette when I think in terms of harp with the ABB I read where they actually offered him a job but turned it down and that he is a yoga instuctor-wonder if he still plays
