Eric Bibb with Grant Dermody came to Charleston, WV Saturday Jan 29th. Eight of us from The Harmonica Club (of Huntington, WV) made the hour long trip to hear him. We all had Grant as an instructor at Augusta Blues week in Elkins, WV.

It was Eric's version of "Going Down Slow" that inspired me to learn the song and learn about him. He played it as his 2nd tune. I found his performance flawless. His playing is engaging and refreshing. His voice is sweet and clear. His subject matter uplifting. Yet I would still call this style the blues.

Grant Dermody playes conservatively and tastefully. He plays to enhance the performance and not distract, but when the time come to step forward and lead, he does it well.

Our group commented about the chromatic harps Grant used on a few tunes. After the concert, Grant said he used two 270s and a Meisterclass. He proved that you can play the blues without a diatonic.

If you get the chance to see and hear Eric or Grant, do it.

@Jim Rumbaugh:

Couldn't agree more. Here are a couple of lovely examples of their excellence:
