Anyone within driving distance to Portland should try to catch Curtis Salgado with Alan Hagar at the Blue Monk every other Thursday. He puts on a tongue blocking, tone clinic. I really doubt anyone has better tone than this guy. They are working on a CD, but I doubt it will do him justice. Salgado is an appreciative Portland treasure, who's acoustic work is really his best blues.

Sugar Blue, Mark Ford and Paul Oscher have all told me face-to-face that they use TB 100 percent of the time from hole 1 to 10.

Just watched Billy at Rosa's last night. He's still using that damn Peavey. Probably the same one.:)

Add Mitch Kashmar to 100% TB list.

Most of the pro players has great tone, maybe not the tone we feel identified with, but great tone.

Gear is important part of the equation, because the pros want a reliable piece of gear, so they don't have to worry about it on stage. That's the importance some custom amps nowadays, because most vintage gear require more maintenance.

I think that why Jason Ricci chose his gear, he's not a "vintage gear" dependent, and he's a genius for that decision (and for other reasons).

I like Billy Branch tone because he does not want to replicate Chicago amplified tone. It a sort of a modernized sound that suits his style.

I like Kim Wilson for opposite reason. He's the closest example of Little Walter applied today. (I'm not saying he's trying to sound like LW, I'm saying to my ears he's great example of old school sound nowadays)

I'd love to hear Phil Wiggins playing with a tube amp and a bullet mic.
