Well, I just got my first Crossover in "G". It plays really well. I don't feel the need to open it up and adjust the reed heights. 1 blow is a little slow but it ain't bad. The 3 draw is nice and 4,5,6 OB's are right there. Ergonomically speaking it is a little rough compared to the Manji and the 1847. The edges are sharp, the bolt heads stick up quite a bit and the cover plates are sharp on the corners.I do think I'm going to like this harp but it's a little small compared to the Manji and the 1847.

I have 2 Manji's, actually one is my wife's but I play it sometimes, they're very ergonomic. The cover plate screws are sort of pan headed which makes them nice and smooth. The cover plates are smooth but not very durable. They have bent slightly from my gripping them. I did have to work on the 3 draw quite a bit on my "C" Manji to get it right. My 1847's all took work to get them up to speed so for me the Manji and the Crossover were better out of the box. I know Chromatic stated that he was frustrated with trying to get Manji's up to speed particularly the 3 draw. So I guess to summarize, I like the feel and the Brassy tone of the Manji over the Crossover and like the playability of the Crossover.

@Lip Ripper
Yeah thats just how it feels for me when I play. I agree the Manji has a softer tone than the Crossover, but for me thats not good because I can make a Croosover sound deep with texture and bright at will. The Manji will not give up that tonal range. Again thats just how I see it. We all play different so we hear it different.

crossover vs manji is too close to call both wood combs-but maybe the bamboo comb of the crossover will stand the test of time and will prove to be $20.00 more than the manji

I'm surprised that Hohner hasn't dropped the price on either the the MB Deluxe or the Crossover (pick one) to compete head to head with the Manji.

Hohner could nix the little zipper pouch and knock a few dollars off of the Crossover.

I don't even like the pouch. The plastic case protects against crushing at least.

I believe they are both "compromise" tuned.

@eharp-"when was the last time any harp price got dropped to compete"?

Yeah, you're probably right, but I can't imagine how Hohner can simply ignore the Manji's at 43 bucks, ya know? The Manji has got to be putting the hurt on MB Deluxe and Crossover sales.

I agree the manjis are a much better value and will not buy anymore crossovers because of it besides the 1 I have

here I am reviving threads again but out of curiosity does anybody have any sales figures on these 2 harps and which one outsells the other-I have both and they both must be huge successes

I love both the manji and crossover also, I've got them both in C only. I do like the feel of the Manji being just that better finished, smoother really but I find the crossover far easier to play and I find it a bit more robust.

I actually like the wee zip pouch I take my crossover everywhere with me and the pouch is the least obtrusive in my pocket over my other cases, the promaster comes close but it's a heavier harp so
that bugs me banging about in my jeans.

Oddly enough Over here in the UK the manji seems to be more expensive on average usually costing £10 more than the crossover. Typical prices would be crossover £45 and manji £55.

A totally random fact is that when friends see the manji they think it looks cool they never say that when they see my other harps.

No conclusion from me other than I like them both, I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.

Greg.

What is the replacement reed plate situation for each? Can we get 'em for either one yet?

Opposite problem here in the UK, the Manji is $15 dearer than the Crossover!!
