Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on something for the last two years that started as a tool for my own practice.
I could memorize licks and hole numbers, but when improvising I often wanted a clearer picture of what the notes were actually doing:
• Where are the 3rds, 5ths and 7ths?
• What changes when the blues moves from I to IV to V?
• How do I play the upper octave?
• Are there other magic positions no one talks about?
So I started building visual maps of the whole 10-hole harp using scale degrees and chord functions. That eventually became an Android app called Harmonica Cheatsheet.
The position view is the main part: all 12 positions, note names or scale degrees, major/minor/modes, and the ability to isolate roots, 3rds, 5ths, 7ths etc. across the whole instrument.
There’s also a chord-degree view for things like I–IV–V and ii–V–I, a small backing-track generator, and pitch detection that shows where the note you play lands on the harp.
It currently supports Richter, Natural Minor and Harmonic Minor.

I’d genuinely appreciate feedback from experienced players — especially if anything about the way positions or chord tones are represented seems confusing or wrong. I would be happy to add further features upon request.
How do you personally navigate positions when improvising: hole patterns, note names, scale degrees/chord tones, or mostly by ear?

$6.50 isn't much, to unlock the mysteries of the diatonic harmonica.
This app doesn't work on any of my devices.
