If you can get past Belushi and Ackroyd and the porkpie hats for a second (as they often rile up true blues fans), consider that behind them was an AWESOME collection of musicians. Here Shotgun Blues features Matt "guitar" Murphy.

IMHO he's playin' some of the sweetest guitar you'll ever hear.

BTW,I think Ackroyd does a respectable job on harp on this tune, but I'm probably in the minority in here on that point. Remember, he's not a career musician, but rather a hobbyist/blues aficionado who's an actor/comedian first

Love this song.

"It's hard to gamble, when you.... lose every bet,
hard to save money when you're, 20 years in debt"

Beautiful.

Song has been in my head since I woke up this morning, including Murphy's solo ...note by note. I love it when that happens, kind of an in-your-head soundtrack. Then again, what's your mindset when your waking up to Shotgun Blues?

Everyday I have the blues....sounds like a good title for a song ;-)

I love his acoustic playing with SBWII on one of those early 60's albums. Some nasty stuff!

I know the movie is a joke to many, but I love it.

To me it's a funny movie that has a bunch of really good musicians just having a good time, and bringing their sound to a lot of people who hadn't heard it before.

Is it what "The Blues" is all about...of course not.
Is it entertainment...sure it is.
And, it has both kinds of music!

Screw the Blues Brothers stuff. Check out his work with Memphis Slim and the live stuff with James Cotton. That's the real shit!

I found the Blues Brothers really helpful as a beginner. Aykroydsharp playing was a great 'target' when getting to grips with 2nd position. Nothing too difficult but being able to play along to 'She caught the katy' and 'B' movie etc was a bit of a mile stone for me.

Anyway, Yeah Matt 'guitar' Murphy is right up there with the best IMO.
