I posted this picture the other day.
I realised that there was a note I never knew or have forgotten about. The half step blow bend on the 10. Nearly 20 years of playing and I'd never hit that note.
Just being practising. Its there, relatively easy in the lower keys, very tricky on the higher. I don't play too much 1st position and normally in "A" or "G" anyway.
Anybody actually use this note? I've never heard it in any blues number.

I use it whenever I practise the major scale in first position (and others). It's much harder than the full bend, though, and it depends on which harp I'm playing. ---------- Andrew, gentleman of leisure, noodler extraordinaire.

in first position it gives you a major 7th and in second position it would be a major third--not great blues notes.
i certainly agree that it's easier to hit the whole step bend than the half step on 10 blow.

Don't have a copy on me (at work), but doesn't Kim Wilson hit it on Trust My Baby (Tigerman/Ohne Filter)? He also plays the pitch vibrato on the 10 hole.

West Coast Blues Sessions, with Gary Smith track 5, 2:35-ish on the turn-around, I'm hearing it. Carlos DelJunco uses it but I don't have his discs at hand right now. I use it, and make sure its right there on my customs. ---------- Joe www.spiersharmonicas.com

If you play the flat third followed by the major third followed by a 1, 5, 6 or 7b, it sounds great. We do this instinctually in the lowest octave when we play a slight bend on 3 draw and raise it up to the unbent note and then move somewhere such as 4 draw.
Try ten double bend, Bb, followed by 10 single bend, B followed by 9 blow, G. Michael Rubin Michaelrubinharmonica.com

Ah, I play that too. Didn't realise what I was actually playing. Thought I was just leaning on the whole step bend. ---------- The Pentatonics Myspace Youtube
