I've been offered a Crate TX15 battery amp, with a mains charger for only £25, thats about 40 USD I think.
Now, I know absolutely nothing about amps, never used one, never even thought I would, until I joined this forum.
Talk about infectious enthusiasm, eh?
They guy selling it, says he got it for his daughter for her guitar, but she's since lost interest in playing and has sold it. He says it's never been out of her bedroom, and is in good condition.
Firstly, might seem a daft question but are they any good for harp?
Have any of you guys out there got one?
It's not a lot of money so I'm tempted to just go and get it, and if I don't like it, I can always put it on Ebay. I've looked on Crate's website and it seems it's still a current model, retailing around 200USD.
What type of mic should I get?
I'd class myself as advanced beginner, so is this a good starter amp?

i've played thru some crates. i like them and they are fair for harp, especially if they have some effects you can adjust.
for the price it seems like a good deal for a first amp.
bottle-o-blues would work well with it and also be inexpensive.

The Taxi has an XLR mic input and guitar 1/4" jack (and CD input) and effects, so you could use both a vocal mic and harp mic, or vocal mic and guitar.
I think this is a clean amp usually used for busking,or playing where there is no power. Musician's Friend sells it new for $169. The bigger version of this battery amp is the Crate Limo.
For $40 it sounds like a bargain. You might need a modeling pedal if you want tube type tone, or maybe delay or reverb.
If you plan to use it mainly on battery power, it would be good to know if the battery still takes and holds a charge. I think that the charging adapter can power the amp off your wall outlet if the battery doesn't hold a charge, but I am not certain of this.
