Just finished off building a Half Watt tube amp using Mark's schematic. Mines got a vintage Goodmans 10" Alnico speaker.
The amp sounds superb, and happily plays at bedroom level.
These were recorded with the amp right next to me at almost head height.
Pictures and schematic here

Here are the demo's. Clicking noise is interference to the soundcard.

Why don't you leave some holes when you play, and maybe some music will fall out.

Sounds nice-and good playing as usual!

How big is this amp? I've never seen one. Did you build a combo or as a power head?

Does it have a line-out?

@Toddl
Thanks.
Mine is a small combo, just a bit bigger than a Fender Champ.
It measures 16" tall x 15" wide x 8" deep

Mine does not have a line out,but it would be easy to put one in.
Personally,I don't like them and prefer to mic up.
Especially in tiny amps like this at as draws about half the power away from the speaker.

Mark has built his as a 1x 12" combo. Follow the link above for some pics and schematic of his.

That does sound good! What was the volume set at on these examples?

Also what type mic were you using?

Thanks

It's difficult to appreciate the volume and quality of the actual amp via your recording.

What with the number of processes the audio file has been through by the time I hear it e.g. The mic the sound was recorded with, your PC sound card, my PC sound card, my speakers etc.

But I have to say, that sounded pretty sweet to my ears and I find it hard to believe it's only 500 milliwatts. Nice one indeed.

Vol,just under half.
These were recorded with the amp right next to me at almost head height, so not loud. As loud as you'd set your hi-fi at home, with the neighbours in !

Two mics. The diatonics were a Shure CR in a small bodied 707 shell.
The chromatic a Shure CM in an RCA bullet shell.

@Tooka
I put on some reverb and normalised it.

It sounds in the recording(apart from the annoying clicks) as it does live in my room.
Grrrrrrrrreat :o)

If pre-recorded cd's and mp3's sound good on your computer. Then you'll get an accurate indication of how this amp sounds.

That has really good tone. The chromatic sounds sweet through it. I'd use an amp like that if it was small most definitely.

Do you have some stick mic? 545, 57, Fireball, 58, EV re10 or anything like it? Just interesting how it sounds with mic with morewider response.

Unfortunately I don't have an impedance transformer for any of my vocal mics.
But here it is with a Thunderharp mic. Which is basically a stick mic dynamic cartridge mounted in an Astatic shell.
It has a wide frequency like a 545.
Its a wee bit bright for me,but you might like it !

To my ears, its far more versatile than a Champ or other single ended amps I've tried.
As you can hear it goes from a darker Tweed like tone to a more brassy Blackface with the twist of a tone pot!

Cool amp, I'd say. A bit too much low mids but I think it's mic and playing style.

Very cool amp.
Much much better than the KHT that has been talked about on the forums recently.
Nice tone!

@Boris "Cool amp, I'd say. A bit too much low mids but I think it's mic and playing style." Cheers. The amp has pretty well the least amount of parts to facilitate push-pull operation (indeed, fewer parts than most single-ended amps), thus for the practically minded (or with "fittings" by the builder, with the player present) it wouldn't take much to alter the frequency response to taste. Plus, of course, it takes any of the 12A#7 preamp tubes...I tend to flit between the 12AU7 and the 12AX7 in my amp, depending on how much bite I'm looking for.
