Hi everybody, sorry for my poor englisch, I try my best.
On December 17th we had here in Münster (Germany) a great Workshop and clinic with Adam Gussow. But the day before there was a great blues session with 3 harmonica players. You see from the left to the right: Me, Bertram Becher and Gerd Gorke on vocals and harp.
What is interesting about this video is that my longtime friend Bertram plays in the 12th position. The song is in G and Bertram plays a D harp. You must know, I play since many years but I never had the chance to hear this sound live or anywhere else.
Please enjoy the videos and let me know if you also play 12th position.
I enjoyed the vids. I would be like Mario in these vids and use 2nd for I-IV-V songs like these...just because I'm so much more familiar. But I like 12th...just don't play in it much.
Hi shbamac: Oh yeah, that`s me on the harpsucker video. It was a honor to make a video for harpsucker. He lives here in my hometown and sometimes our harmonicas crashes together. On Youtube you will find many other vids of me playing - what I call - basic roots stuff. No Fancy stuff, no OB or OD, no Blue-Popper-Ricci-Runaway licks. Just me and the love to a perfect tone.
BTW: I`m copming to USA next April - May with my "Busy Bedbugs". But I will start a new thread in a few days to tell more.
Great videos, Mario - thanks for posting those. As for 12th position, I wouldn't have a clue. The root note is 2 draw bent, right? How does the rest of the blues scale lay out? I think I asked this a while ago and Buddah told me to pick up a D harp and play over whatever song was being discussed, but apart from the bent 2 and the 5 draw, I remember hitting lots of bum notes and ending up confused.
Those Inner City jams have a tendency to get rough and Violent.
Peoples emotions get out of whack and lots of fights can start. It must be Very rough were you live. I've never had to DODGE BULLETS! :) ------- Great Video! All good players. ---------- ---Go Chicago Bears!!!---
All 3 of you harp guys sound really good to me. And your backing band is very good as well! re: 12th position, it's intriguing to me but I have yet to venture much out of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. us old dogs- 35+ years messing with these dang harps!- are sometimes reluctant to move out of our comfort zone very far. for what it's worth I may have done a 3rd position part in that song if I'd been sitting in. Either normal register or on a low F. good sounding mic/amp as well!
