last night jam was interesting to say the least,I call it a jam it was supposed to be a practice at the band leaders house,But the ya hoo's need to go home and practice, before trying to have a band practice,Me I like everything oraganised, drinking is fine just as long as it dosnt mess up practice,I want full songs played, not with 3 guitarist that are what i call pieces, because between the 3 of them all the can do is pieces,of songs about 10 songs in 5 minutes,But hey what they know of them songs rocked,Rocked I tell you im about 20 years to old for hard rock/heavy metal,I loved it when i was 20 now at over 40 give me blues or coffee house acoustic even Jazz,But no freakin Bang your head were almost dead because this music you guys trying to get me to play is killing me.Aint nothing worse than a middle age balding man trying to relive his youth with, trying to sound like a Eddie Van Halen while his on Xanex,Just play the blues man Just 1 blues song ,Oh they thought they were playing blues, we jammed for 15 minutes going back in forth E to A every 4 barrs forever I was like wanting to scream hey there's a thing called the 5 chord and it turns this son of a bitch around so we can end this loop of E and A.I mean E and A can be used as the only two chords for a blues song but not if you dont have any freakin talent, come on Man;-)I was so bored and stuck out there cause I dont DUI if I can help it,so I just started just playing super fast noodle crap,I thought what the hell,And a drummer from the last band i was in said Wow that was some amazing stuff,I thought you drunk I was noodling very stupidly, to do it cause there was no reason not to ,I wouldnt be caught dead trying to do that in a real situation,WE had a off key, quiet and shy female back up singer,A good drummer who is is not a good keyboard player ,playing keyboards,a double bass pedal thrash metal drummer who was very fast and good and loud did I say LOUD,and 3 guitarist I call them pieces,Am I starting to paint a piture of my night mare,I did get to try hooking my kustom amp with the line out into the PA and it seemed to work well,It even gave me some extra control at my end with the amp. That was a good thing cause I was wondering,I think I reached a corner stone where I need to move beyond the open mic,or at least find some decent blues players,But still need to spend a year or so really getting my chops down and some heads to standards,I feel like there's no point in trying to work out playing these kinds of things and just work on my chops some more and go find a better venue,I had a FB friend who is a real good musicians tell me,NEVER PLAY OPEN JAMS NEVER,I now know what he was saying.Im to old for rinky dink open mics;-)

id say check out all the local open mics theres usually all different types of players to interact with .talk with the host to see if you can back him on a couple songs. youll get to know who can play good and who can play some blues.im 56 and a year ago i went to an open mic at a pizza restaurant bar.now every week i go and get right up with the host and i play with other performers through the night we play acoustic blues folk and light rock.i also play at a rock and blues jam.it might take a few weeks for them to get to know you but its a great way to meet people and get to play.i also play at some bluegrass jams.you learn a lot playing different styles.
