Todd,
You can OB/OD on LO's and other such harps, but they often require extra intervention which has historically involved adding something to the harmonica to do so. I am not saying you can't/shouldn't use a foreign substance on a harmonica, but I would personally try to avoid doing so. IF I had to, I would not use dental wax or turbo tape to get 'er done. Nail polish would maybe be acceptable, I guess, but there are other ways of doing it...some of which are pretty much invisible.
On my own personal harps, it depends on what I use the harp for and how often and how much time I have to set it up. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas Updated 1/11/11

there seems to be a consensus that the Ms hohners are weak-the only ms hohners I own are 3 big rivers they leak but yet they seem to be loud enough-they are an inexpensive harp

@HarpNinja No I didn't put anything on these. I built one with just embossing the other had tip scooping/ embossing the end of the slot and Eureka there it was. Its funny there certain techniques that do wonders to some harps and are things I don't do to others. I'm not kidding they overblew and overdraw with ease and good consistant tone. I was really surprised! I play modified Marine Bands and the 6 overblow and 7 overdraw were easier on the LO then my "D" harp. The 5 over blow is very easy on a MB "D" harp. So the LO wasn'r better there, but that 7 overdraw (witch is something I practice) was really nice! I didn't put nail polish on it because I wasn't trying to build a overblow harp and the person I'm making it for doesn't overblow.

Crap! I just wrote a whole post--then did the crossword puzzle--then was directed to the login page again, and my post slid off into crapospace!
OK, @Todd--I understand now--I've never seen an MS MB and didn't know they existed. Thanks for explaining that to me. . .

Grey Owl really nice playing on your Gm. My guess is its a Natural Minor not a Harmonic Minor?
The harps I never play are a Big River in A and some other cheapies I bought years ago. I thought the big river was garbage ie leaked badly & was unfixable.
Other harps I have and rarely play are a couple of Natural Minor Lee Oskars. However I have a couple of LO Harmonic Minors in Gm & Am and whilst I dont use 'em much I do love them.
I have 2 Chromatics and a couple of Tremolos all of which get rarely played.
