I got a couple Manjis a few months back, and I generally like them-especially the F:just some light gapping to suit my playing, and it's the first I grab. The D, not so much, yet. It's probably a candidate for some embossing on the lower end. Anyway, I was investigating the gaps with the covers off, and noticed the screws that secure the reed plates to the comb are rusting. Obviously, not stainless. Has any one else experienced this? Not sure if it is simply moisture, or a dissimilar metal and moisture combination. Anyone know the thread count and length to replace them? The thread count is important, as the screws thread into the reed plates;there are not nuts(which would make them bolts, not screws). I'm not ready to re-drill and replace with longer bolts to support the cover plates(a design flaw, IMO, but a minor one);i just wanna stop the rust before I can't get those screws out. Thanks!

I've had really good experience with Suzuki's customer service in the past. They've sent harmonicas directly to me when the webstore I ordered from was out of stock, and they sent me a new set of post screws free of charge, even when I explained it was my fault that I stripped the threads and offered to pay for them.

Admittedly that was Suzuki Europe, but I would would hope the company ethos would remain consistent in this multinational society.

Thanks, Andy. It never crossed my mind to contact a rep, actually.

Would Brendan Power be the POC for something like this, or is there a US representative? I really want to upgrade to stainless with the same screw size and thread count;replacement screws of the same metal would probably end up rusting again.

Try going on the Suzuki site itself. In fact, when I was making inquiries to find about about the Manji and how to order them, they referred the order to Rockin' Ron's, which is how I learned about them.

Just a thought guys, but some types of stainless steel does stain in moisture. Fasteners such as nuts and bolts, screws and nails are not usually made from marine grade stainless steel. If the screws in your harp are heavy corroded, they are obviously wrong, but light staining is quite common and usually nothing to worry about.

Yeah, I reckon Brendan's probably got a cupboard at his house full of Suzuki spares, he has to hold the pile of stuff in with one hand and quickly shut the door with the other so the massive pile of screws doesn't swamp him. . . or at least thats my vision of him and I'm sticking with it :)

Honestly it was just Suzuki Europe, they're based in Milton Keynes here in the UK, and their US website is here. Best of British to you old chap!

It's not stainless, at all, I don't believe-they have that goldish hue to them, like some kind of mix or alloy. Yeah, 304/316 Stainless would be optimal. I'm in the marine design business:I'm fairly well-versed on hardware, especially the kind that stand up in salty air! Maybe I just need to lower my salt intake.

I still wonder though-am I the only one that has this problem?

I will contact Suzuki USA-thanks!

Buz, so not only do you have a few loose screws, they're rusty as well? Next time you're diving on a rig, get yourself an anode.

Oh, and New Orleans is not a good destination for anyone on a low-salt, low-fat diet. All that stuff that makes food taste good.

You said it, brother.

Fat=flavor

The 11 years I lived in the Qtr, I was lucky I went offshore so much. Otherwise, I would have been 400 lbs.
