Could some of you weigh in on this type of tuning. This is from the description at Guitar Center. "The Hohner 560 Special 20 in country tuning (also known as major 7th tuning in cross harp position) has the 5-draw reed tuned 1/2 a step higher (to F# on a C harp) than normal, allowing you to play a complete major diatonic scale in cross harp." Thanks

"Country-tuned" harps let you play a major scale in second position. Probably nobody's first choice for blues, although you can bend to get the flat seven if you need it.

I think Charlie McCoy often plays country-tuned.

It's also good for playing a more jazz oriented tunes or ballads as well because major 7ths are used very frequently in those.

You do lose, on the other hand, the classic thing sometimes called a blues chord, which is that you open up holes 2-5 and the tongue blocks everything else in between while doing a draw breath.

On the other hand, you can play 3rd position as a major in the middle octave. It's the easiest of the altered tunings to learn and one of the most fun.

They are just changing draw 5 to F# instead of F. Normally, you'd have to hit the overblow on hole 5 to get your F# on a C Diatonic.

If there is a price difference, I would think just buy a cheapy C Diatonic (Like Big River/Hot Metal) and raise the draw 5 pitch yourself to see if you like the tuning.

Just a thought, plus you get to learn about tuning in the process and spend less $. What can I say, I'm a cheap SOB :)
