Just got off the phone with Dennis.
He is coming through here in February to do a gig at Blind Willie's club and is also having some locals (including yours truly) be on the program as well.
He's in the forming stage but I wanted to get the advance news out so anyone around Atlanta might could plan on coming in and enjoying the action.
For those who've never seen Dennis in person, let me tell you he is top action all the way and a very thorough and competent performer.
He mentioned doing a little mini-lecture as well and I'm sure he will have plenty of his microphones and other stuff for sale. I saw him do one of these things once and he is pretty flexible on prices...he just don't wanta' GIVE it away. He is a fountain of knowledge about that harp.
He will probably post on here about it, but I am giving it a jump boost.
More to follow as it comes together.

That is very cool to hear Doug! Since I don’t do any of the booking the only way I know when someone is coming to play at Willies (unless The Shadows are backing them up) is by the Coming Soon section of the calendar. LOL I have never met or seen Dennis in person but I look forward to it.

When's the date? There's the off chance that I might make the 6.5 hour drive. My wife's sister lives in ATL.

I'd love to see Dennis some day. Maybe he'll come to Austin or the Gulf Coast one day soon...

Just made a visit to Dennis's site. Here's a great example of why I love what Dennis does. His bands swing like hell; that's what he wants, and he knows what to do with what they give him. He likes fronting the band next to a strong horn guy, and he gives him no ground--respect, but no ground. It's two horn guys; shoulder to shoulder. That's what a harmonica player should do:

Adam..
He said Wednesday February 9.
Would love to meet you there.
That 6.5 hours is a mother, though.

I could do it. My wife couldn't, though. I'll think about it.

Yeah, Dennis definitely swings and seems to have a love of swing music, which has always struck a chord with me.

He is very at ease doing the horn thing and the harp thing, which I admire.

I am loving the Houston scene, but missing the horn section that I got to play with at Ted Hall's jam in Austin.

Frolicking with a sax is very fun, there is a whole world there...

Oops, time to run to the Houston Blues Society Jam at the Big Easy, my first time.

Later!

Dang, I f'd up, the Blues Society Jam at the Big Easy isn't until the last Thursday, I hung for a little bit then headed off to Dan Electro's in the Heights.

I got teamed up towards the end of the night with a self-deprecating old hippy that didn't really take anything too seriously...at least I got plenty of solos!

...and at least Young Buck was on the drums, that kid rocks!
