I have pulled this back out of the closet to play with again and from what I can see, it will provide me the abilty to crank the amp and control the volume on the mixer, eliminate a delay pedal because it has alot of effects built in, and shape the sound further with the three EQ knobs (high, mid, low). Do any of feel that this is a great way to go or just the opposite. (If I ever need to, it has other channels that you could plug in a guitar, vocal mic, stomp box etc.)

What do you mean by crank the amp?
The con of using said mixer is you would need something to power it like a powered speaker. In one band I play in, I am trying to set-up my rig to be my pedal board into a powered speaker. I can then lineout from that to the mains.

I think the answer would be different for different types of music. I use a Behringer mixer into an amp to be able to plug in guitar, harp, voice, and another voice into the same amp. This works great out on the street, when you don't have a lot of places to plug in and you need to stay portable. I just play acoustic stuff with the harp on a rack--so I'm not really in need of a Chicago crunchy sound.
My Behringer doesn't have much in the way of FX--but an Alesis mixer I have does, and that works OK for me--but you can't just turn the FX on and off while playing, the way you can with a stomper--which can be a big drawback for live performance--but works fine for recording or just playing around.
The advantage to the Behringer I have is that it will operate on three 9 volt batteries--so, with a Pignose Hog 30 amp you can go forth and blow loudly without a power source at all. Now I have a portable power supply, so the issue with batteries isn't really important. The Behringer does eat batteries at an alarming rate.
I like mixers because they allow control of each instrument (channel) individually and I can still use multiple amps on the line out side. . . ---------- ==================================== Always be yourself--unless you suck. . . -Joss Whedon
