There's been a jam happening here locally on Monday nights that I've been wanting to attend, but have been unable to due to my schedule.
It's hosted by Cadillac Zack at the Maui Sugar Mill Saloon in Tarazana, California.
In recent months they've been featuring professional blues acts to start things off and then opening up the stage to the jammers.
I've been getting an e-mail every week informing me of what's on tap for the following Monday and when I read that John Nemeth was going to be there, I told myself "That's it! By hook or by crook I HAVE to be there."
I've never seen him perform in person.
Well it turns out that John Nemeth had to cancel and in his place was going to be Mitch Kashmar and a bunch of other artists.
I've seen Kashmar several times before and he's a worthy substitute.
I got there about 8:00 p.m. and the place was already standing room only.
I went right over to the sign-in sheet and it was already almost 3/4 full with several harp players ahead of me.
About ten minutes later Kashmar started the show expertly backed up by Cadillac Zack's band and I'll tell you he sounded AWESOME! The man is a fabulous harp player.
He was playing through a '59 Bassman (I asked him after the set) and it (he) was putting out tone to die for.
His set was followed by the Mams's Boys who also went over very well.
That was followed by more local harp pros including Chris Hammersmith and Michel Fell.
One thing that made it so much fun was the crowd. There's nothing like a true blues crowd.
Whenever someone played a nice lead, there wasn't just polite applause, there were ROARS of approval.
As the night wore on I was starting to think that I wasn't going to go on and it turned out I was right.
I got a phone call (AAAAAARRRRGGG!!!!) and had to leave.
I am going to do my best to make it back there as soon as possible.

Cadillac Zack is a friend of mine. He is very good guitar player that is schooled in traditional Chicago Blues. He's more than just a singer and guitar player. He's produced some excellent recordings. One can learn a lot from Zack.

Great story, bluzlvr! I agree: there's nothing like listening to good blues with a blues crowd. That'll really keep ya' smiling.
