I record about a cd of music a day of totally improvised words and music as a 1 man band (harp, vocals, drums (kick, snare, ride cymbal), guitar, keys. all played at once. I do this in my studio and post them for the world to enjoy. So instead of posting a new topic everyday, I will keep them here.

Tonight, 1-11-11, I sang a laid back set that began with a song I have titled "30 Years Of Busting Rocks to Sing This Song". It kind of sums up my journey that kept me playing/living around the world doing music full time without any management, label support, or much of anything but a drive, lots of great listeners, a few clubs that believed in me, and great musicians that dug my approach. Nowadays my body is often aching from all the manual labor I did to eat when times were thin. You could always find the lowest grunt work and come and go as you please. No committment, but man it was hard on the body.

So here are tonights songs. You can hear them at the links below. The myspace one streams one after another of my most current 200 songs.

30 years of busting rocks to play this song
can't find no peace tonight
satified as I am
lazy snowy day swing
I'm learning life can be a ball

Walter: I've only ever read you posts at my workplace, where I can't click through to the music. I came home tonight and logged on with the express intention of doing just that.

Can I just say, bloody good job fella! I've enjoyed everything I've listened to so far.

Potentially stupid question: When you say improvised, is that literally pressing record then playing and singing as it comes to you? Because I'm sure if I were to try that my lyrics would be far more nonsensical than yours :)

hi bonedog569: Thanks! I missed this place for people like you.

Greyowlphotoart: Thanks! I have checked your videos. You play good!

Andy: Thanks for checking out my music. What I do is this when I pick up an instrument to play:

I put myself in nuetral and words and music just flow out. I have no idea what will come out. Everything I do is totally spontaneous. I record it all as I go along in my studio, tweak the mix a bit with eq, reverb, compression, convert to wave files, then mp3's, and post on my sites. I spend from no time to a few minutes mastering each song. An entire cd takes about 1.5 hours to complete to final product. I spend a ton of time in my studio and like anything it gets easier as time goes along.

My approach to music has helped and hindered me over the years because sometimes words come out that upset the audience and sometimes words come out that satify them. I have pissed of media and record exec's because I sang the truth about the industry with them there. I pick up vibes around and from the universe. But when there are people in the same room, I tend to pick up their spirits and that becomes my songs. I aim to please no one but myself. IMO that is what a true musician does. If one does what is truly inside ones self, then that is the real blues! I have had lots of major label/film soundtrack offers if I would forget Spontobeat and do like everyone else. I just can't do that because it doesn't hold my interest.

I can't wait to get home today and sing some more songs. It never gets old. Much like an Autistic person does, I can do the same beats and riffs over and over again yet they feel brand new each time because the story is different. I go into my songs and become them, thus each song, even if the beat is the same, is a totally new experience. I find music a vehicle to go beyond the sound and create a unique time traveling experience. That is why I am not concerned with forcing myself to learn new fancy riffs, complicated styles. That just gets in the way of what I do. Thinking is an instant death to my music approach.

There is so much to sing about, that I would need 1,000 lives going at once to even scratch the surface. I wish I could record this message to a song right now. Most people get self concious when they try to put their hearts and souls in nuetral and let the universe channel through them. They get scared. I have had countless musicians tell me this. That is sad to me because that is where the real music lies and we all are one of a kind when we tap into this channel. Be an original and let you beautiful soul shine! Life is good! Walter

ncpacemaker: Thanks for thinking of me but I never heard of Jimmy McMillian. Unfortunately I don't commit to doing suggested topics unless they happen to spontaneously come out. I have been approached several times by promoters to do shows that would take audience suggestions and make songs about them. I was also offered great money to do this. It felt like a freak show idea and I am not into making money that bad. I can do it but it would be a thinking process which I don't enjoy doing. I am hooked on letting the words and music spontaneously flow out of me. That is a high that superceeds any form of doing music I have experienced and like any addict, I will feed my habbit at all costs of worldly success :-) Walter

It is easy being very good at what I do because I am the only one doing it :-) If you are crazy enough to search through my songs you will find lots of them about the rent being too high and other such social issues as taxes, poverty, teen pregnacy, addiction, crime, gangs, religion, health care, seniors, young kids, special needs populations, and it goes on...... It is a diary of my thoughts and thoughts of the world. Thanks for the compliment on the music side. The 1 man band thing forces me to play simple, which is what I like anyway (playing a million notes is easy). The cool thing about the 1MB is the bending of grooves, phrasing, and times that I can drift into. this is much more intersting to me than playing fancy/fast stuff.

No copyrights for Tore. When I was recording lps and with labels, all that stuff had to be transcribed and copyrighted. The publishing company did all that. Seeing I turn out about a cd a day, I would need a full time staff and a big bankroll! Feel free to do any songs you like. I don't know of anyone doing so, so you would be the first. Whatever one(s) you might pick would make it the world premire of the song because 99% of them were done in my studio in isolation :-) A few dozen or so were recorded at house parties, clubs, and on the streets. Thanks for checking out my stuff. Walter

I recorded these tonight. The mood went back to the the 1970's-80's when clubs were full of dancers tearing it. I am able to travel through time. All I do is close my eyes and I am back there. I see, feel, smell, experience, it all just like it was all happening again. This one brought me back the Red Barn in Gurneville California. The place would be wall to wall hippies all smoking weed, drinking, sharing it with us, and the young women loved to braid our long hair. Those were some days! I had a real trio behind back then (guitar, bass, drums) and I just blew harp and sang. The 1 man band caught it tonight and I am so thankful to have discovered Spontobeat. ! Walter

ncpacemaker: Thanks! I don't know enough about the video game world to mention anything. I stay totally out of that less the Wii games and Wii fitness that we use in my classroom with my special education students. Just the other day I checked on my cell phone usage because we are paying $50 a month for it. I used 21 mintutes in the past year and changed it to buying minutes instead. That and doing these forums is more than enough cyberspace for me :-) I sent you a reply. Walter

My wife and I went to the Lent fish fry at the local catholic church tonight. The cool part about it is there is never enough tables so you end up sitting wherever there is a seat. This reminds us of living in Europe. In the states tables are viewed as much more territorial to the first sitting there but the fish fry defies this rule. Tonight we ended up sitting with 4 elderly woman who ranged in age from 82-93. They still are independent and live together in a senior complex. We had a great conversation with them. The oldest was a real character. She has a $50 dollar bet going with two other seniors in their complex to who will die first. They have a routine everyday where they get together and check another day off on the calendar. I asked her what is the secret to living so long and she said to be awnry with a smile in your eye. These songs came out when we got home. Walter
