I was here for one day. But too much moderation when not needed. People deleting their posts destroying the context of the thread. Then I get ripped on for possibly hurting the feelings of the great Jason Ricci.
Mr. Gussow, Please delete my account. This isn't a place that I feel welcome anymore.

This forum, much like music and the blues, is bigger than any one person. Posters will come, posters will go, until the day comes that Kudzurunner shuts the whole place down .......The MBH forum will live on.

You gotta let people say what is on their minds.
You can't jump in and tell people to hush because of what you think they might say next.
Allowing people to indefinitely edit or delete posts causes disturbances in the context of the thread, there bye creating more hostility.
And prematurely locking threads.
There was never any flaming or issues yesterday. Just a lot of over moderation.
I will speak freely within the rules, or choose to not speak at all.
I just wanted to say thanks to all the cool people I met here yesterday, and all the great info I learned. It was a good day, and I think this is a good place.

Gee, and the poor guy even put up a nice introductory post to get started in conformity with ritual expectations and informal protocol BS. At least when he was here he posted more substantive harmonica content and less drivel than tends to be the norm around here.

Sorry If I came across as a jerk. I really do wish you would stick around and give us a chance. One day on the forum is hardy enough to judge us. My comments above were made in jest because, having been around awhile, I have come to realize that when a member makes a "farewell post" they can't help to come back and check to see what people said. I am sorry if my comments offended you.
If you were to stick around you would probably find that we are not as Over-moderated as you seem to think. I did see that in another thread there was some discussion of RELIGION. Not a good thing around here. It has caused major meltdowns and even threats of bodily harm. The rules state to avoid it at all costs and the moderators were just trying to keep the peace. Maybe they did jump the gun a bit, but jumping the gun is better than the alternative.
Please, stick arround Sean

Wow, I walk away from here for a day and boom! Earwax, to quote my favorite movie of all time, "what we have here is a failure to communicate"...In my eyes, you didn't really cross the line, but we're still a little hypersensitive around here to somethings that nearly burned the place to the ground. Please stick around-there's a lot to learn.

Nobody crossed the line, but the thread was hurtling out of control towards the line.
It was right to lock it - it had run its course from its original purpose and had drifted into religion.
Thelema - in the UK and US - is recognised, in law, as a religion.
Whether one approves of that or not is not a subject for a harmonica forum.

Stick breaks out the stick. I like it. One thing I've come to appreciate in teaching is that diplomacy is overated. Essential, major empathy, to a point, then I'm done.

it wasnt hurtling anywhere until folks brought up the actual word "religion." folks should let the moderators do THEIR job and not start calling for them to do their job.

Man this really carries me back to the early days of internet message boards and chat rooms. People with multiple identities stirring up crap, flame wars, trash talking, getting banned etc. Ah the good ole days. So anyway, assuming everything is as it appears to be here,I don't think you said anything that would personally hurt the feelings of the great Jason Ricci. I am quite sure that Mr. Ricci is not thin skinned enough, or likely to care about the passing negative comments some guy(or gal) with the handle "Earwax" made on the MBH forum. Probably no more likely than he is to become elated about the praise from some guy with the Handle "ncpacemaker". I'm sure that "MoonCat" can take care of himself. I believe the thread was locked because such discussion is strictly prohibited for obvious reasons and because everyone should be shown a certain measure of respect, especially a great internationally known artist like Jason Ricci who comes to this forum from time to time. As far as you leaving the forum goes, I doubt if many really care one way or the other. So if your really leaving I say to you adios and no dejes que la puerta se golpeó en el buen señor que divide !

You don't need the word religion to recognize the nature and direction of a thread. I'm thinking satan worship as an accusation was enough.

Exactly. I think blocker did a great job. He locked the thread exactly at the right point. Jason got a chance to counter misinformed accusations of Satanism and it was hard to see what else of a constructive nature could be said.
Noone offended, noone insulted, no ongoing grudges formed. Why anyone feels the need to quit after a perfect example of moderation done properly is beyond me.
@earwax
Stick around.

Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Whatever your opinion is about whether earwax wants to leave it is his prerogative and discussion about it here devalues this board. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. ---------- /Greg

IMO there is some truth in that first post of the topic ; that rule about "not talking religion" really bugs me, I think it's preventing a lot of very interesting debates, not on the merits of one religion to another, but about how the beliefs are related to music and culture.
I wonder, now there's a team of modos on the forum, maybe that rule could be loosen a bit, so that discussions could take place and be moderated IF it goes sour ?

I didn't see anyone "slamming" anyone's religion? Did y'all? We're all adults, right? I'm interested in learning about things from people when I can, and if that's definied as being against the rules, well ok.

No, not all are adults, I'm pretty sure there are quite a few young people coming through from time to time. Something else to remember.

Well, now that you mention it, not all of the over 21 crowd around here would accurately be described as adults either.

On several occasions in recent memory, new people have shown up at the forum, come on like gangbusters, started threads, asked questions, taken up noticeably more bandwidth than most newbies--and then exhibited warning signs of not being able to function as part of this community. TNFrank was one of those. Another was somebody who showed up one day, posted thirteen times in one thread, created all kinds of bad feelings, and then disappeared with a self-dramatizing flourish before sundown.
I'm delighted with the job that all four of my moderators did in this case. Earwax is certainly free to leave. No hard feelings. This obviously wasn't a place for him. We're registering five to ten new members a day. This is a friendly place, but it does have rules. The no-religion rule pains me--my current research is a study of the devil and the blues--but we found it necessary.
The great Jason Ricci--and he IS great--gets no special treatment here when it comes to questions of religion, or mystical faith, or whatever Crowley should be considered. That's why one of our moderators, with great tact, shut down a thread where the religion rule was being pressured.
Back to work, everybody! The woodshed is calling.

I've been and gone. Gone again, then come back.
Recently the site has changed a lot.For the better. The majority of posts are on topic and interesting.
I reckon there was a lack of moderation in the past.
Maybe the pendulum has swung a little too far at the moment, but it will swing back to a more central position soon, and hopefully a happy equilibrium will be found. The new moderators are settling into what is a difficult and usually thankless job.
I'd say to Earwax don't take it personally.Have a few days away, play some blues, then come back and talk harp.
