I recently bought an Electrovoice 630 and it came with an XLR connection. So I assume that it is wired Low Impedence. Plugged in my impedence transformer (which is XLR to 1/4" plug) first through my delay pedal and then straight into the amp. Wow, I got some serious feedback. I don't understand that.

Try it without the delay pedal first. Also, turn any EQ knobs(i.e., Treble, Bass, Mid)down to 0, then creep them up until it feeds back, if it still does,then crank 'em back a touch. Different mics will have varying levels of feedback rejection. I regularly use a EV631B, wired HI-z, and have very little problem thru any amp.
Also, on the delay, turn down the delay, decay, repeat, or whatever levels, and creep them up bit by bit. You can't play everything dimed-it WILL squeal. ----------

Oh, and from a quick cutsheet check, that's a Hi-z mic. An XLR connector doesn't automatically mean Low-Z. Try it without the transformer. Use an XLR to 1/4" cable.

I only have one knob Todd (epi v jr) but I was playing with the delay settings a few days ago. Maybe that's it . Thanks I have a EV623 HI Z w/ no problems. I really want this one to work.

if you plugged it into your amp & it screamed feedback it sounds like you have got a good high impedance mic with a strong output. What type of amp did you plug it into? most guitar amps will feedback with a HIZ mic . a delay pedal normally help with feedback a little bit.

Oh, and don't stand right next to the amp in a small room, or point the business end of the mic(especially a hot one) at the speaker. I don't mean to sound condescending, but ya gotta troubleshoot. Try playing with the amp's volume really low, then gradually creep it up ----------

XLR doesn't imply low or hi Z. And perhaps more importantly, whether a mic is low or high Z HAS NOTHING TO DO with whether it is more feedback prone or hotter.
Your mic could be low Z - EV's came both ways - and simply a hot mic that you were connecting correctly when you used the impedance matching transformer. When you connect a mic wired for low Z through a high-Z cable, you are immediately halving the signal - and that will sure as hell kill any feedback! Whatever works for you is fine - so use it and enjoy it. But some of the statements above are incorrect so I wanted to correct them.

Listen to Greg. I tried to the best of my knowledge to help-but I don't know everything, and only recall bits and pieces of what I do know sometimes... Also, I was partially mistaken, that mic is really dual impedance even though it is listed as high-scroll down on that cutsheet link, and you will see how to tell. If it is LOW, then you needed the xformer, and it's hot as hell. If it is set up HIGH, then get a hi-Z xlr to 1/4" cable. I should have specified that.

@ Hondo,..Your EV model 630 is a Dual Impedance Microphone,.
If your mic came with it's Original cable ,.remove the cable from the mic ,.open the cable shell connector,.
Move the white wire from Pin 2( HI-Z) to Pin 3 (Low - Z) That is if you want it to be Low-z ?
It Sounds as if your set up for Hi-Z,. You'll know for sure by looking at what pin the white wires hooked to ,..or you could hook up a multimeter to read your Ohms.
