Hi all...have seen tons of stuff on DD-3, Lone Wolf Delay (which I own), Two Timer, DanEcho etc. However, Dennis Gruenling was in town recently and I noticed he uses a Boss RV-3 exclusively. Anbody have any input on the pros and cons? I personally like simple and the thought of reverb and delay in one pedal appeals to me. Thanks....

I,ve used an RV-3 for years and actually had sent in to John Kinder yrs. back for a pedal mod.Did I notice a difference;it was hard to tell but I use one and I like it.I actually just packed mine up for a jam session for tonight instead of bringing my old premier verb unit, its just easier and less cumbersome for this situation.Bottom line;I give it the thumbs up.

If you're using mics with a crystal or ceramic cartridge, the impedance in Boss pedals are often too low and causes noise problems and so what's being done is that the input and output jacks on the pedals are redone so that they're a 1meg impedance, which is more ideal for those mics. The Dan Echo has this very same problem.
I haven't used Boss pedals for 10 years and what I use are either a Digitech Digiverb set on the spring reverb setting or a pair of Guyatone pedals, an MD2 Digital Delay (never set higher than 225ms) and MR2 Micro Reverb (this pedal has been discontinued since 2001).
When you use Boss reverb or delay pedals, I strongly recommend getting the PSA-120 power adapter and avoid using batteries whenever possible. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I use one as well-Dennis has the Kinder upgrade in his-I used the Ron Holmes upgrade. The actual load your mic or guitar sees before the mod is 4.7 megs. Adding two resistors, and a cap lowers the input load, then an RF choke acts as a noise filter. I did the mod myself, with the schematic supplied by Ron,and parts from Radio Shack. Works like a charm, with just a tad of reverb and delay.

@tmf, do you think it would be ok to share that schematic? And would it apply to pedals other than the RV3? ----------

That's good info, Tom-that belongs on the Thread Thread thing that Nac or GH have going. If they don't see this, I'll see if I can link it. ----------

Do you still have the PDF for the mod to the RV-3. I just got one and use a pretty hot mic. I'd like to see the difference it makes. My email address is on my profile page. Thanks.

Ah, modern technology...sometimes I think the web operates like a oneway mirror...
I actually went digging around Ron's website to see if I could just order it from him but couldn't find any mention of the mods.
my email address is swoerner@msn.com
Thanks! Scott
