Switched XLR Connector

This is the Mouser Electronics page for the Neutrik switched XLR cable connector that I was recommending to @Shanester at the jam last night, for his SM57. The red plastic ring is the on/off switch and it installs like a standard XLR connector if you can solder--just detach the original connector & hook this one up the same way. The switch seems reasonably durable despite being plastic; I've had one of these for more than ten years. It's close enough to the mic body to reach quickly while playing harp.

Even if one doesn't use an XLR mic regularly, if you have an XLR cord this is a useful thing to install, because you never know when you might need a kill switch--though if you install a switch, of course you gotta remember to leave it turned on when it's supposed to be on :).

Thank for posting that Htownfess, I'll order one of those as soon as possible, and thanks for the sound support last night!

LeonStagg, the jam was a The Big Easy on Kirby near campus, you can google Big Easy Houston and find them. Their jam is every Wednesday starting at 9:30 with the house band, jammers come up around 10:30 on.

Last night was awesome, packed house with lots of great players. You gotta come check it out!

Peavey makes a 25' XLR cord with the Neutrik on/off switch. You can get it on line from 8th street music here:

http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=11174&Category=Microphone

EXTREMELY useful for harp players who play through a low-z mic. I've been using one for 20+ years. Don't leave home without it!

The cable is relatively narrow and flexible so it doesn't take up much space in your bag and Peavey gives you a LIFETIME warranty.

@LeonStagg: I ran down some jam options in an earlier thread when Shanester was moving here:Jams I don't think anyone has managed to make a jam stick in Sugarland yet. The Big Easy jam is a straight shot in/out on 59; parking's bad now due to a trendy place down the street, so come early or late to park easily.

You ought to go see Little Terry Rogers and the Bluebirds--he plays around Sugarland weekly and updates his Facebook wall on gig days: Little Terry Larry Bernal and the HTown Jukes, who played before Adam's clinic last summer, also play Sugarland occasionally, as Larry lives there too; nothing soon, but check periodically: HTown Jukes

@Shanester, I'm pretty sure the Peavey cable hvyj posted is what Jonn uses.
