@greyowl did you say you are a beginner? or did you just return to playing after a layoff?the solos you post are much too strong to come from a beginner
Thanks Guys, and also for answering the position question. I am still trying to get my head round this stuff.
@Groyster. I learnt to play to some extent many years ago and although I enjoyed it, it was quite a challenge as I was ploughing a lone furrow. My musical buddies were guitarists and it would have been better if there was another harp player to bounce ideas off, jam with etc., Unfortunately there was no youtube, online lessons etc., available then so you really just had to listen to records and see if you could work them out but I suppose that is good in some ways because it trained you to listen well.
I am no doubt finding the whole experience of playing again so much more fulfilling now and it’s driving my wife nuts!! Thought you’d grown out of that she says.
I’m like a little kid in a candy store right now and have learnt so much in a short space of time on the Forum and elsewhere and my playing has improved with practice. I’m playing much more than I ever did before when I had about 5 party pieces to hand. It’s good to be acquainted with so many players now and to talk harmonica and try and get better.
@Silvertone:- I too like Sonny’s work. I’m afraid I couldn’t find a backing track for this piece and ended up playing over a very nice version by an Argentinean group called The Mississippi Blues Band. I prefer not to do this if I can help it because one has to concentrate to much on timing the solo note for note, rather than have a free and easy approach….but needs must.
I think they recorded the track with an E harp, but I lowered the key with Nero Auditor Wave Editor so I could play on a C harp.
