Congratulations! When you cant do them, it seems like a magic trick well it did for me! There will be no stopping you now. When you realise what you have done and how you did it you can go on to do 4&5 if your harp is ok, Funny I've just bought an MB in A. 6 ob was ok 5 a bit weak 4 no good. All ok now after gapping.

Overblows are like sex.

Before you can do 'em, you're either telling everyone that you don't want to, or you're desperately trying to, but haven't managed to find that Miss Right (harp).

One you've done it, there's no stopping you. You turn into an 'overblow nympho' and try to find them in every conceivable position, like 3 overblow, even though you don't need to.

You then want to do it with as many partners as possible. You'll even try it with incompatible partners (chromatics), despite knowing it's not a good thing.

Finally, you find the right 'partner' (mines a Spiers MB in C) mellow out and realise it's just a normal part of (musical) life.......

Gosh, I feel all philosophical now......

@Stevelegh haha. If you ever tire of 'Ms right' I would be pleased to make her acquaintance:)

Always happy to amuse GreyOwl.

I lurve my Spiers MB.

You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. That one's going in the ground with me unless it breaks, gets lost or is bettered.

At the time I ordered I was learning OB's and I was only interested in getting the 6. I told Joe not to bother with the others. Fortunately he didn't listen.

My problem now is working out keys. OB's are coming so natural that I'll hear a tune, pick up the Spiers and try to pick it out, then find I'm playing in some weird position. Latest one was Alex Paclin's Jingle Bell Rock vid.

I don't know why people resist OB's. It's like how Bach must have felt when he stuck the black keys in.

That 6OB is my favorite. I find an excuse to do it in everything I play. Minor third for 2nd pos, not sure what it is in 3rd pos, but it sounds real nice, and same for 12th. I can overblow 4&5, but I haven't found a good use for them yet. Sometimes I'll sneak in the 5 in 2nd, but that's about it.

Anyone have any good use/licks for 4 and 5 OB?

I remember my first overblow on 6, it was only a few months ago. After trying in vain for about two months one unexpectedly popped out, like a fart in a lift (sounded a bit like one truth to be told). I was so shocked, I almost blurted out, Excuse me, I beg your pardon.

When you can't do overblows, it's frustrating like when you're young and all the kids are out on their new Christmas bikes and you don't know how to ride one yet.
After you get it you wonder what all the fuss was about.

I'm not using 4 or 5 on licks much, but as I play a lot of the vocal element of songs or guitar fills, I do find 4&5 useful to get otherwise unobtainable notes
