i was woundering because the green bullet has a christal mic element is it safe to play with it on its own? There is only a thin mesh and then you can see the element. Do you think there should be something elese in there to protect it?

The Shure 520DX has a dynamic element in it. It's not a crystal element. It's fine to play as it is. That's just the way they are built. Just plug it into a good tube amp and you're good to go.

I've got an awful case of the ole green gullet today, about to be worsened by a heavy intake of whiskey :)

You can pull that mesh out & install any color grille cloth you want as long as it's not thick heavy cloth,.. Silk or something like it ,.may help your tone outta the 520 DX & gives your mic a lil' flash <>
