The only luck i have ever had with a (decent sound) is a green bullet mic hooked upto a behringer dd400 digital delay, a green bullet mic and of course my lovely little all tube vox ac4tv. Just asking what is your opinion on this amp and what do you use?

Thanks

I own a Vox AC4TV and never use it. I find it too bright for my taste. I got it in a trade for a Champ 600 re issue. My taste is for the Fender 5F1 circuit. To my ears a bit fuller. I have been thinking of con veting the Vox to a point to point and trying to lose some of the brightness. I understand that the Vox is pretty good for guitar. I like the MXR Carbon Copy for delay. However, everyone has their own taste, It is a good thing too. Otherwise everyone would sound the same.

Amp is f***ing expensive toy to try all of them. I never tried specific harp amps like Sony Jr and HarpGear (they are not available here in Russia and buying for try is pretty expensive). From others I love Fender Pro Junior very much. I also really love how my LoneWolf Harp Attack sounds to big solid state amps like H&K Warp 7, Fender Stage 100even more than Pro Jr, but without HarpAttack they are not really harp-friendly.

I have had the luxury to play a lot of amps. The Sonny Jr amps are the best for me. Each new design Gary comes up with is better than the last. And he just never stops obsessing over them. But my Avenger just kills. Best amp I've ever played, bar none.

I posted this a few weeks ago, but here are RJ Mischo and me playing through it. The fun starts at about 2:45

Greg - That was a fun night!

My favorite amp is my tweed Champ clone that I built; next up the Super Sonny that I bought from Greg! It's probably the best Bassman that I've ever played through.

Tweed bassman, brown concert & brown bandmaster all have their own appeal, the tweed bassman is typically a shade more flexible regarding retubing etc.

For practice/recording/low volume there are too many good small amps to list (& probably many that I have never even heard of...if you see a little amp in a music shop, just try it, you never know what you might stumble on), but late tweed champs & princetons (5F1/5F2A or hybrids of the 2) are a pretty safe bet. But my favourite small amp is my 0.1 to 0.5W amp I just built, schem & info at my myspace:

www.myspace.com/markburness

...mainly because I can play it at volumes not much higher than I listen to TV, without disturbing the neighbours...thus it gets used daily. At full volume it's about half as loud as a champ...which is still on the loud side for apartment dwelling (a champ is typically about as loud as a trumpet).

EDIT - Left out the SF Champ, plenty of good recordings made with them, quite a middle of the road sound for a single-ended amp, but a tape delay, or similar can warm them up a treat.

I have a Kendrick Champ clone that I get compliments on every time I play through it. For bigger rooms, the Super Sonny is hard to beat. However, my Danelectro Commando just has the right sound, pretty versatile too, I can just play one side (4X8) if I want. I've had lots of amps, these 3 are the keepers! For a deep full vintage tone, the Masco combo w/ 12" Jensen is pretty cool too!

Lucky that I don't have rbeetsme address or I might show up in the middle of the night with a black mask and a small truck. What an amp lineup! p.s. I liked my 2 10'' Kinder Soulful before I mistakenly sold it and my little 8'' Magnatone from 1955 best. d

Ok bigd, you can have the Maxi Mouse, just don't touch the Dano or the Les Paul uke. BTW: Did I mention I live near Ruppert?

How about the ones that got away (sold) ? Gregs' Kalamazoo, Kendrick Texas Crude and Silvertone 4182 w/2X12 cab, Alamo model 3, and 50W Blonde Crate full stack. Just kidding about the stack, it was lousy for harp!

Ok, what's the best current low watt tube amp available for harp as far as plug in and play? I'm thinking maybe swap out the 12AX7 but I don't really want to get into any other modding. I'm leaning toward the VHT Special 6, but what do y'all say?

well as i said first (my sound) is the vox ac4tv all tube amp, its small and quite powerfull, 3 settings of "POWER!!!" 1/4 watt 1 watt and 4 watts. I always have it at a quarter watt and crank it to drive those tubes! If that aint ya style you could try a vox DA5 digital amp with loads of effects built into it. Heres a bloke trying one out (sunshine of your love) sounds like hes got it on the delay setting

For smaller gigs I have an original '57 Tweed Champ that I use in conjunction with my Lectrosonics Maxi Mouse. Most gigs I take my Cruncher. If I'm just traveling light I just take my pedal board that has a Lone Wolf Harp Attack on board. I have played big gigs with the two little amps before, though. It's all good.
