It is a very weird sad day. Buddha is someone who was a huge influence on the harmonica community. His custom harmonicas were amazing and his playing was pretty unbelievable and innovative as hell. It is surreal to be writing about him like this and at the same time to be thinking about Don Van Vleit. Who was just about the opposite, who as a harmonica player nobody I know ever tried to emulate. But at the same time was influential as hell. Well not so much for his playing but for his voice, his songs and most of all for his persona: Captain Fucking Beefheart! Though Beefheart was about as fringe as it gets he was known as a harmonica player...they both kicked my ass in totally opposite ways. Virtuosity versus raw weirdness. Oh man, they will be missed. It is a sad day in this harmonica world.
