Astrology was only a science in the really old days. When music was also considered a science.
The modern concept of science is entirely different. oregonstate.edu defines it as "systematically acquired knowledge that is verifiable". Science is all about using the scientific method. You are not trying to prove something, you are in fact trying to disprove it. Science is, shall we say, a non-belief system.
Astrology always has been rejected by objective scientific testing (I exclude pseudostudies and metastudies because they aren't worth a damn for horrible and evidently biased methodology).
Astrology does not use the scientific methodology. It does not base itself on verifiable facts. The only sources you can trace it back to are ancient lore and creative minds.
Every time I read astrology predictions in the paper, I seem to approximately be equally well-described by each category.

/Edit: just saw Buddha's post. Buddha, I am glad you see it as something for fun and not serious. Some people take astrology much too seriously and make important life decision based on what it says.

If you're into psychics then Wikipedia has an interesting article up on "cold reading". Please keep it in mind when reading content like this.

I'm a skeptic but Buddha isn't charging people in this thread so I don't see any malice. Pretty much anything in the media is full of misinformation, so it's hard to get excited about this sort of thing.

Buddha - totally off-topic, but since you're probably monitoring the thread. Have you considered making a CD of cover songs?

Cool....Buddha, I for one have a soft spot for astrology. Alot of folks don't realize doing charts are expensive... minus a detailed counseling, or cd, explainations..to the tune of about $300 on up... I check it everyday in the daily newspaper.Ha! I know, that's super generalized, and completely BS. Strictly for amusement. Seriously, there are thousands of legitimate hardcore practitioners that have studied for years and accumulated a great deal of knowledge. Oddly, there are two systems, points of origin, or astronomical data, that separate the two systems. And the two are Tropical and Siderial. My mother has been an astrologer for 4o yrs. She studied Tropical Astrology. And ironically her brother, RIP...was heavilyy into Siderial, for 30 yrs.. How can?
Personally, I have always believed it to be a well mapped out form of deductive logic. And it is very old. The Chinese have theirs, too.

I can't see any problem with this thread. I don't believe much in astrology either, but anyway I'm curious...

@KeithE - Yes and I probably should. What kind of tunes are you thinking?
@everyone else- I won't be around much today or the next week, so I'll be much slower with the astro reports if you want them. It's back to work for me, yesterday was a big comb cutting day so I had time to spare while I was watching the machine.
@mojokane, New Haven where?

@Buddha - Cool. Maybe after you're back we could start a thread? I'll have to think about it a bit and see what people can think up and if you're into their suggestions.

I'm on tour in Europe with intermittent access and don't have time to monitor things as I'd like. But this thread is so over it's silly.
Memo to Chris Michalek: Please start your own forum--or reanimate your moribund one--if you'd like to discuss this sort of thing. You're gone from this one. A little swagger is no problem, but swagger combined with casual disrespect of moderators and other forum members doesn't work for me. Sorry.
Memo to Oisin: Chill. This is your first warning.
This thread is locked. Please be a little nicer to Nacoran, everybody, while I'm away.
