I've spent a good 30+ hours trying to lean to tune. I cannot get it right. The only thing I can think of is that I am simply unable to maintain a constant air speed over time. That, or a little elf comes in and changes the tuning while I'm not looking.

So, I'm thinking that, If I want to tune, what I need is a constant air speed. Then I can dial in the tempermant to what suits my playing. I know this is how they do it at the factory, and also how accordion tuners do it. Anybody tried it?

I have a little compressor and tank that I have hooked up to a homemade tuning box. The tuning box is nothing more than an electrical junction box with a hole in it and part of a bicycle inner tube for the stem.

It didn't cost much to put together.

I built a bellows - I thought it would be great - didn't work worth a damn - I really screwed up an A harp - I went back to using really gentle drawing and blowing.

Well, I built myself one from a project enclosure and a dc fan I bought from Radio Shack. So far, it is not usable - The hole I made on the top of it (where it sucks the air in makes a slight whistle, as does the fan itself. The Fan's noise is minimal, but the whistle hole is a real problem, it's pitch beats against some of the reeds.

I'll try another version and post results.

great project...

..breaking in harps evenly and gently.

How do you make it quiet when running a motor?

Is there a way to isolate a vaccuum in a closet?

Perhaps, rigging up a series of valves, and regulators, to control the flow of both the blow, and draw, from one source?

How about a jig for multi, or single holes?

The higher notes need a tad more pressure to get a sound.

That'll be a great project. It's #10 on the list.

Here's a thread that helped me immensely to get consistent tuning.
