I do not understand the low and high impedence issues (if there are any). I currently own: SM57- 520DX- Astatic 200- and an Electro Voice 623. The Electro Voice says on the side "Impedence changes are made on cord plug". I just bought an Electro Voice 630 (that has an adapter from 3 pin to XLR) not knowing the impedence. Can someone please straighten me out? Oh, and if it matters, I'm playing through an Epi Valve Jr.

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks

I need to revise my post.
I found and read a lengthy post from here on the subject.
But how can you tell if a mic is hi or low?

Put an ohm meter across the signal leads. If it reads 900 ohms or more it is high z. 100 or less it's low. Do not do this on crystals! Possible element damage. All crystals are high anyway.

@ Lumpy
100 to 900 ohms would be in the Mid Z class ,.Mid Z's are mostly 100-600 ohms,.
Use a Low/High transformer, like the Shure A85F or Shure A95UF to bump em to High Z if your playing through a Tube/Guitar amp,.

wohoo epi brother,

you'll need an impendance transformer. Or you can send the mic to Ron (Rharley5652) to mod it.

I also have and epi valve jr, and highly recommend to buy an MXR 6-band EQ for it. It is a must-have.
