This looks like a good place to put original Christmas songs--here's mine--I actually put it up last year, but you reminded me of it--so it's all your fault, Hobo. . .
Thats cool Oldwailer, you sing, and play great both the harp and guitar,I was really enjoying it.Ill have to dig up my last years christmas video i did its a mess;-)
Oldwailer are you finger picking that?I realy like the song you did ,Ive been trying to see how you played the acoustic,I dig you guitar playing,Its got a cool flow to it,Ive picked up some finger picks last month, and been trying to use them,Been putting off learning finger picking for years, but the cbg has got me wanting to learn, and damn if i dont like em better for the 6 string, but they hurt my fingers after awhile;-)I love how you used basic chords but embellished them real nice, gave it a nice swing,I would like to take my acoustic playing in that direction thanks for posting.
Try dumping the finger picks for now and just use the thumb pick with bare fingers. You did get a plastic thumb pick and metal finger picks, didn't you?
Oh well, get used to the thumb pick first then you can either add the finger picks or dump them all and play with bare thumb and fingers.
Remember, the Rev. Gary Davis only used a thumb with one finger.
yes i got a thumb pick .I might try that,I practiced some lessons with just fingers for a few months, a couple years ago,but then didnt mess with it,much after that.but did learn a cool 3 finger pattern though, then i got the picks for the cbg but got to playing with them on my 6 string, looked up a couple videos on using them, 1 guy just used 2 picks thumb and finger, the other guy uses 3,I kind of like the 3,and also like how they make dead strings livin up a little, but they do hurt after awhile,But i will try just the thumb pick and see how that works, thanks

I use three fingers and thumb--but I started out playing classical guitar and the 3 finger thing just stuck. I use a thumb pick a lot of the time, but only after my thumb gets sore from picking.
I only use finger picks when I need to get really roudy--like when I play unamplified on the street--then I'll play my reso guitar with a full set of picks and really punch it.
If you need picks, try the ProPik Fingertone nickel fingerpicks and work them over to make them fit you right--they stay on, and when you get them right, you can wear them for hours without pain. Elderly music has them at http://www.elderly.com/accessories/names/propik-%22fingertone%22-nickel-split-wrap-fingerpick--PK47SP.htm
There are no wrong ways to play a guitar as long as it sounds good--as Mando said--Rev Gary Davis only used a thumb and one finger and played great music. Shit, Jango Reinhart only had two fingers on his left hand and made Gypsy Jazz history.
I would agree with Mando--forget the damn picks if you are just starting to pick--they just make it harder. . . ----------
guess what happened oldwailer Im looking out the picks you mentioned and saw they were made adjustable like you mention,so i got the bright idea of why not take a lighter and warm up the white dunlop thumb pick i have and make it a little wider, seems like it would work, well i just barely touched the flame to it and it lit up like gasoline,Im serious it burned allmost in two at the bend of the pick,In less than a split second;-) I did get it out and it did adjust, but man them things are way more flamible than any plastic i ever tried to melt WoW
Thanks Ant 'Hey we got a Amazing grace thing going on,I have allways loved your version.I braged about your version at my school site ;-)you ought to post it ;-) if yo want .thanks
