I remember in a video Adam mentioned tat he like blues that approached jazz but didn't go all the way. I find this idea compelling because I don't listen to jazz for entertainment, but I do appreciate and am attracted to the theoretical and technical mastery required for playing it.

So, the question is, what music does this already? and more importantly, what makes music 'approach jazz?'

What makes jazz jazz? How is it different from other music?
First you have the most daunting component: the complex harmony. Second you have the idea that a 7th is a resolution, not a point of tension.

So, music that 'approaches jazz' is something I think that merits discussion: what music do you like that approaches jazz? When you perform music that approaches jazz, how is your approach different than traditional or modern blues?

don't get caught up in the small details of what is what and how do you do what. Just play what you play and if it approaches jazz then so be it.

I don't purposefully play music that approaches blues but sometimes it just happens.
