I've been listening to bit of Sonny on YouTube and I can't ever remember hear him go above the six hole. Is it my imagination or did he very rarely use the high register?
He would leap up to the nine blow and repeat the bent nine a few times or hit the nine and bend and unbend as a vibrato. Try Drinkin' In the Blues for an example, he pretty much blows his whole arsenal on that song.
