Also, I wonder if he was held in such high regard as a Harmonica Master in his own time? I suppose he must have been thought of as being someone rather special to have had so many recordings of him. ----------
He did look older , than a lot of the others Ive seen., Im working to learn this ---------- Various Musical ramblings http://www.youtube.com/user/sjeter61?feature=mhum
I think it is safe to say Sonny was considered a master in his own time. He recorded with Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly (pretty sure), Johnny Winter, Lightnin' Hopkins, etc. He was considered the leading harp player in the New York Folk Scene. He played in two Broadway plays. Not to mention countless albums including one called Sonny is King. Michael Rubin Michaelrubinharmonica.com
Sonny Terry is my all time favorite harmonica player. Hootin' the Blues was what motivated me to play. I wanted that sound. I love watching videos of him play because it's obvious that he loved to just cut loose and make noise. You can also tell just by listening. It looks so second nature to him. I would have loved to meet him. Cool fact (to me anyway), he was born on my birthday (or I on his I guess) and grew up about 30 minutes from where I did. ---------- Dyslexics are teople poo.
