I'm a blues player. I don't overblow...yet. Now that my facility in positions 1,2 and 3 has stabilized somewhat what position should I work on next? I want to work on something that would be useful for blues. Please, explain your selection. Thanks in advance.

I get A LOT of mileage from using 5th position to play natural minor key blues (and other natural minor material).

Useful because: hard to hit a really bad note; easy to play with blues phrasing; very similar to playing in 2d position; you can use all 3 registers and play the entire harp.

To be fair, I've haven't learned to play in 11th position, so Buddha may be right. I'm just speaking from my own experience.

3rd and 12th are pretty much the same, just different roots. At least, if you are playing minor pentatonic 3rd position and major pentatonic 12th.

I like 5th a lot too. I played some basic stuff in 5th on my BYBO submission. Love the octaves in 5th.

@Buddha.. any examples of blues in 11th? Hats off to you.....toughest blues scale I've tried. Root notes are 3 draw 1/2 step bend and 6 OB.... 4 OB, 7 and 9 overdraw are also in the scale.

9000...if you like high harp you can play the blues scale in 4th with no overblows.
6 draw, 7 blow, 8 draw, 8 blow bend, 8 blow, 9 blow, 10 draw.
I find the harp by going down one step from the 2nd position harp I would use.

Band Key of A
2nd position D harp
4th position C harp

for 11th, don't think in terms of root notes.

Gm (2nd position) is the exact same scale at Bb Major
