not exactly what you'd expect, but I hope you all enjoy.

I may or may not have taken a walk on the wild side, and it is more than a little bit definitely not what Lou Reed meant with those words.

Now that I've been mysterious, I fused blues, electronica, and house music together. Lots of layers of harmonica. Feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The electronic bit at the beginning reminds me of the early Mario Bros games. As far as I'm concerned that is a good thing.

I like the sound of the fused harmonicas, but I just couldn't get 'into the groove' with it. There seemed to possibly be timing or rhythm issues and it all seemed a little bit at odds with itself. I reckon if you tightened up the rhythm those harmonicas would sound pretty cool.

I'll be the first to admit I don't really know a hell of a lot about music, so feel free to disregard any or all of the above :)

Finally, and for the following reasons:

a. It's the same song
b. As far as I'm concerned the man can do no wrong
c. Your voice kinda reminds me of his

Here is a vid of The White Stripes covering Death Letter.

Edit: the vid didnt seem to be showing up; now it is. Hooray!

Andy Ley: I'm loving the comparison to Jack. I admire his delivery a ton. I actually vastly dislike the White Stripes' take on Death Letter Blues, though -- and this is coming from an admirer of that band. Re: the groove: I am pretty sure the harp is on time, but there is a massive time shift and the emphasis shifts a couple times throughout the song, so that may be what is putting you off. Maybe if I tweaked it a little bit and if the mixing/mastering was better, it'd be easier to get used to. I may be wrong, though -- I do not have the best of ears.

xpun: If I could play like Son House, I'd give you a traditional cover. As it is, I don't feel like I could do it justice that way. Mr. House's slide work is scarily nimble, and I don;t think anybody can replicate the tone he achieves...in that respect, he's like Robert Johnson in steroids (Johnson had great fingerpicking, though, whereas Son House employed a more percussive style). Either way, if I could emulate the playing, I'd try something more conventionally bluesy. Glad you like the harp in there, though!

Thanks for the feedback!

Gotta agree with ya tf10music on the Son House thing all the way & the Robert Johnson thing. Heck if I could emulate either of them I'd be on tour..not on here, at least not as much as I am ;)
Keep at it tf10music you do have something going there.

I get that, xpun

If I could do what they did...

Imagine Robert Johnson on a plugged in acoustic guitar with delay. Yeah. Awesome, right? Right.

Cheers haha

( I must comment that with this level of collegial discussion we are kickin' Adam's full moon crazy theory to the curb. This and several threads from today. )

Andy: Self appraisal is as follows.

The mix is terrible...the drums are too quiet and they are frail. The vocals are too loud. The harmonica isn't terrible, but it could be more organic and sit in the groove more. In other words, it sounds too robotic. Also the song kind of fades into itself because I failed to insert accent points. I like my singing, though, and I like the electronic and synth tracks. I also like the concept, which is obvious, since I wouldn't have done it if I had disliked it. I can't talk about my harp playing, save that I am sure that there are things wrong with it -- which is part of the reason why I posted this here.

Cheers

actually, about the accent points...do people think they would work better if I did them with a harp or with electronic noises?

Cheers

Do the 2 need to be mutually exclusive? Have you tried running your harmonica through a filter to make it a sound like some kind of electronic synth-harp-monster? I don't know whether it would work amazingly with that tune, or be bloody terrible; but I bet it will be fun finding out :)

Edit: Having a stupid spelling day!

I actually tried to download a plug-in that simulates various amps so that I could do just that -- unfortunately, it hasn't been working. I am still looking into it.

I wish I had a harmonica mic so I could just plug into a pedal and then into my interface. Alas...
