for me i'm on a serious Gary Primich and John Nemeth kick at the moment. I love that big sound that they both have, the use of rich octaves and Tongue Blocking. I had heard of the name's before but never bothered to check them out, not because im ignorant but because there is always someone else i'm digging and i don't get the time to check everyone out.
As Gary said in an interview once "One note played richly is worth more than a thousand notes played without any tone"
im working on some split Octave lessons at harmonica academy,And something i just learned about chorus forms from David Barrets school like AAB or ABAC ect,I never knew of such things except the AABB that HA has on the celtic tune i worked on awhile back,I plan on studying the chorus forms and how to build riffs into the struture and hopes it helps me get away from noodling,so much ;-)

since some days (or is it weeks already? *g* ) I´m trying to overblow...it´s getting better day by day... ---------- Music is moonlight in the gloomy night of life. (Jean Paul)
Can't say I'm studying anyone specific right now, but I'm currently working on the last 3 bars to Kim Wilson's Mojo Workin solo. Hoping to get this one on the set list for our next gig. I have a modified version ready, but I want to increase my velocity and that part of the solo is pushing me.

Ant, I saw John Nemeth a year ago and it was great. There have been some threads here about being white and able to sing like a black man. John is the only one that I have ever heard that can sing like Motown. Great choice to study.
I've been studying the use of effect pedals with harmonica. I know that isn't the same as "playing" the harmonica, but effects sorta than dictate what you play.
Mostly, I've been listening to Blues Traveler's "Bridge" album (and some of "Truth Be Told") along with their official live releases.
I guess I am listening for subtle effects like the use of delays and reverbs. The more "standard" sounds of octavers, wahs, and such I have a grasp on.
'Studying' would be a stretch for me, as I never was the studious type, but I'm in Prog Metal mode here at work, listening to the likes of Liquid Tension Experiment, Fates Warning, Porcupine Tree, Kamelot and Dream Theater.
I draw inspriration from whatever I listen to-sometimes it's applicable to whatever band or project I'm in at the moment, sometimes not(definitely NOT right now, since I'm in an old school r&b band, and I'm also starting a blues band).
It's been a long time since I did Prog on harp-maybe it's time to dust off my old RP200 pedal. ----------

I'm completely paralyzed. I have been in the doldrums for aa couple of months not sure of what to do next. I was getting to a spot where I liked my sound, only to hate it today. I see my glaring errors, and now have to work on them. Unfortunately, I have to go back and reinvent my sound again - for the bazillionth time.
It is probably about time to find an instructor for help. I'm probably going to be calling Deak in a few weeks when I have some extra resources (time and money).
If there was one person I was studying up to this point, it was William Clark. I love his swing...
I've been working on Modes, Scale exercises and Arpeggios.
Currently been playing with 3rd position Ionian modes then switching to Dorian and Natural minor modes.
Also I've been having fun with running through the Major scale in 1st, 3rd and 2nd Positions - Playing a riff, trying to transpose it and so on and so forth. *EDIT* I just realised my response was a bit off topic. Player wise I've just been enthralled by Satan and Adam's Mother Mojo and Jason Ricci's Done with the Devil. Its been a melting pot of ideas to mull over. Dennis Gruenling's 3d position work (mississippi saxophone) - because of a thread post here, - and my own explorations in minor scales in 12th position inspired by Buddha's 12th position #2 youtube video.
Welcome BBray - I'll click on your links when I get a moment ----------
Wow there's a few names names here which i've not come across before, i'll be sure to check them out.
@Hondo, i think GamblersHand is on the money with that riff. It sound good to me although i'm breaking in a new D harp and finding those triplets a bitch:o)cool riff. ----------
