J.P. Allen, harmonica player and proprietor of How-to-play-harmonica.com, harmonica.com, and harmonicalessons.com, recently sent me a download for an audio book called BORN TO RUN. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

Much of it is about the Tarahumara Indians of the Sierra Madre area of northern Mexico. They are some of the greatest runners in the world; they live in a land that time forgot. In the mid-1990s, they traveled to America and, two years in a row, won the Leadville 100, a one hundred trail mile race that begins at 10,000 feet and ascends. The winner did it in 17 hours and change.

There's a white guy who has been living among the Tarahumara for several decades. He's one of the stars of BORN TO RUN. His nickname is "Caballo Blanco": white horse. White boy who runs the blues, so to speak.

Amazingly--and unsurprisingly--he has shown up on YouTube. I urge everybody to take 9 minutes and watch this video. It opens a window into a whole other way of life. I also urge you to buy the book.

I loved that book Adam. It changed how I run and why I run and converted my to using Vibram Five Fingers. I am currently on my second pair.
