He did his time, he should be allowed to work now. Trust me I wouldn't let him watch my dog for me but he should be able to play football. I would rather have him working and paying taxes instead of him not being allowed to work and collecting welfare on my tax dollars.

I don't understand the word redemption in this context.
Redemption would be taking in strays, opening an animal shelter AND working there....educating the public about spay and nueter. ...donating pet food....I would say if he commits 1/2 his earnings to helping dogs he would be on the track to redemption.

Hey! Michael Vic went to my High School and my neck of the woods is also responsible for that other lovely athlete....Allan Iverson. As far as I'm concerned Philadelphia is doing us a favor. Maybe they will take Allan back as well.

There's another winner-Iverson is in Turkey trying to play ball there-he already missed his first game stating "I'm not ready yet".

I'm sure Mr. Vick thought this as well. Well, he was wrong, and so are you.

@mercedes:
So if my neighbor hangs his cat by the tail from a tree and sets it on fire, that's ok?

He can have sex with it too, right?

I've got these two fists. They are mine. They live on the ends of my two arms. I'm glad you feel that I should be able to do with them what I wish.

I hope you can allow me my liberty in this regard.

What happened to second chances? As far as I know this
guy is living a clean life. He's making the most of
that chance as anybody can see. He's loved now
as a quarterback in Philly now.
I think Iverson still has a big house on the Mainline
outside of Philly.

It's not about second chances with Vick-being an athlete myself, and having my football and track letters from school still means a lot to me. Kids look up to todays athletes-it's sending a bad message.
Like it's ok to hold dog fights,go to jail and then come back and try to make a name for yourself. Did they give Pete Rose a second chance? I'm a Jets fan,but I hope the Giants mop the field with the Eagles this weekend.
As far as Iverson goes, what because he owns a big house outside of Philly it makes him better than anybody else?

diggs i like ya and respect you
but i dont think this is a good subject on a harp forum.
some of us really love are pets
to me thats sayin hey give a molester a second chance .he put non fighting dogs in with his fighting dogs so they could get the feel of ripping one up.
hung them shocked them . this is sick i mean really sic . but he can make money and play football.
so give him second a chance. i wonder if he really does feel any remorse or if its just good spinning cause the money .

well came back home from working at the rescue.
thinking about this guy really got under my skin.
i guess he is as popular at my work as O.J. is at battered women's shelter.

Dog fights make me sick, that being said, he served his time, he should be allowed to work at his profession. Maybe he has a change of heart. Dogs are personal property, but the thought of making them fight each other for thrills and money is bad IMHO.

it was just one game against an accident ridden redskins. which almost entirely likely wouldnt happen a second time. dont think vick is gonna keep up this pace. the eagles will be fortunate to get a wild card spot... the end.

I was never a Mike Vick fan before. As the cliche goes, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, and Vick fell so hard and so far that it would have been a life destroying event for most human beings.

But, as another cliche goes, how one deals with adversity is the true measure of one's character. It seems apparent that Mike Vick has learned what there was to be learned from his arrogant and egregious mistakes, has taken constructive advantage of the opportunities that were made available to him and is now achieving as a quarterback up to the full extent of his considerable talent. And he appears to be doing it with sincere humility and sincere appreciation of the opportunities he has been given. He doesn't seem to be taking anything for granted. Very different from the arrogance and sense of entitlement he displayed when he was with the Falcons.

There is something to be said for redemption and taking advantage of second chances. Vick may never have actually performed up to the full extent of his considerable potential but for the adversity he brought upon himself. It's how he has handled the adversity and learned and grown from it that is remarkable. I give the guy a lot of credit and these days, I root for Mike Vick.

I hate Vick. Hate. Used to be an Eagles fan. 20 years. Never a big McNabb fan - felt he was over-rated and inaccurate as a passer - but he seems a good human being and was actually very good but not great. Then they traded Dawkins. Then they traded Buckhalter. Then they hired Michal Vick. Drowning, hanging, electrocuting a living thing - dog, cat rat? Private Property? Fighting dogs trained to mutilate? Good lord. How can a decent person derive entertainment from such things? Vick played one of the most amazing football games I have ever seen Monday night. Amazing. He should not have been banned from football as he did his time. But no self respecting team should have picked him up. That is probably why Philly did. They deserve him. The fans cheered him from day 1. Absurd.

Redemption? All he is doing is maturing as an athlete. That is not redemption. It is making a living by doing what you do better, as one should. I have not seen him do anything to further the cause of animal rights. I am NOT a nut case animal lover, but my wife does Dachshund rescue here in Pennsylvania. I root for him to get knocked out of another game.

Yes, Go Giants! Actually, Go anyone who plays against Vick.

So now that I have gone from Eagles fan to hater, I am sure they will go to the super bowl. Why do good things happen to bad people? Everyone entitled to their opinion. That's mine.

Diggs,

I like you and appreciate your motive however Wayne Pacelle, HSUS head has been widely criticized for partnering with Vick as well as someo of his other "non Vick" decisions. Ability to use him to get money and attention to the HSUS, which spends a lot on other than animal causes. Pacelle is a businessman as is Vick. With respect to Vick, sure, he is going to do the photo ops and video clips and even donations. His handlers are smart and he stands to make tens of millions if not more.

My gripe is - for someone who had it all or for someone who had nothing - how the hell can they even think about engaging in such activites? What kind of inner person can you be? He is not stupid. Gratuitous moves on any part are just that. Again, differing opinions. I am done.

Gee, based on recent events, I was under the impression that the ultimate MBH punishment was excommunication--not stoning, burning at the stake or eternal damnation.

Sure, the guy had everything, was selfish, depraved, arrogant and ungrateful and then he lost just about everything because of what he did. Since then, he has been punished, taken complete responsibility for his reprehensible conduct, has achieved what appears to be sincere humility and has, to all appearances, learned from his sins, and is performing professionally up to his considerable potential. What more can we, as a society, expect an ex-convict to do?

You don't have to like him, you can question his sincerity, but if every convicted felon released from prison made similar efforts to reform and behave in a positive and constructive manner the world would be an unquestionably better place.
