If you haven't taken a look at the Hill Country Harmonica website in a while, please visit the homepage and do that. I've posted videos of most of our teacher/performers:

http://www.hillcountryharmonica.com/home.html

Our roster for 2011 includes the following:

§SUGAR BLUE and his band

§CHARLIE SAYLES with Tony Fazio

§ADAM GUSSOW (with either SATAN AND ADAM or THE NEW DELTA JUKES)

§SONNY BOY TERRY and his Houston-based blues band

§DEAK HARP (James Cotton's protege)

§BRANDON BAILEY with his "Memphis Grooves"

§TRIP HENDERSON (old-timey/bluegrass/blues master from NYC)

§DOUG "JOE LEE" BUSH (Atlanta legend who studied with Little Walter as a teen)

§BILL "HOWL-N-MADD" PERRY (Hill Country bluesman extraordinaire!)

§special guests to be announced

For various and complicated reasons, it's unlikely--although not entirely out of the question--that Billy Branch will be returning in 2011, although we did indeed make him an offer. Nor will Terry Bean and Billy Gibson. Those who have put on events of this sort will understand the importance of fresh faces as well as familiar names; they'll also understand that events evolve in unpredictable ways. (Some agents are much easier to deal with than other agents, but that's another story.) The quality and depth of the 2011 roster should be evident, in any case. Hill Country Harmonica will be bigger and better than ever.

And yes, I hear tell that Annie WILL be serving that clear stuff, a.k.a. "Hill Country Dew."

Attendees will have a chance to jam with the Sugar Blue Band, the Sonny Boy Terry Band, and the Bill Perry Band. More jam time! That's one note many of you sounded in your feedback forms last year. We heard you and have taken action.

Sugar Blue needs no introduction; we're extremely pleased to have him and his band as Saturday night headliners. But I'm also excited about snagging Charlie Sayles and "Joe Lee" Bush. These are guys with undeniable mystique and decades of stage time between them; Charlie almost never gets the call for this sort of teaching event and JLB--who learned from Little Walter--tells me he has NEVER done a teaching event, although he has done a lot of private teaching. They've got a lot of hard-won wisdom in their notes and words. They'll make this event special.

I'll certainly be there, but Satan and Adam are not confirmed. We'll know that after the first of the year. I've got backup plans!

Greg Heumann has an open invitation to come and educate us into the finer points of amps and mics, as he did masterfully last year.

Pre-registration will begin some time between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

Wow! Nice work, Adam. What an amazing lineup! I'll miss Terry Bean but am grateful for being exposed to him at HCH1. I'm sure he'll be back in the future. Life's obligations could intrude but I can't imagine not returning.
Thanks!

One thing the ubiquitous "they" will say about me...."you won't get any loafing or "I am so wonderful stuff" from that old bum"
This gonna' be fun.

I'm definitely excited! Couldn't make the last one so I've been looking forward to HCH2 since before HCH1 had even taken place.

Timeistight,

It says to check back after January 15th for pre-registration. If I recall correctly, I was able to pre-register in February last year.

I hope many do pre-register this time around. I know that last year the actual attendance was much higher than originally anticipated based on pre-registration figures.

the thing with pre-registration is folks dont want to commit.
things pop up. work, family, tickets to a the stanley cup...
so people make plans but dont buy the ticket in case they cant make it.

however, once the ticket is bought, they now have a paid for commitment which gives it a higher priority.
if adam would have a pre-register discounted price and an at-the-door price, he might get a better idea of the number of enthusiasts that will attend.

but then, not having a good approximate number of attendees may not affect his plans for the camp.

(i realize i may be either helping folks who pay early get a special price [your welcome] or hurting those that pay when they get there [sorry].)

We're gearing up as I write. This price for this year's event is $165. (Our costs have gone up; we're spending more on every front.) Camping will be $10/night, rather than free--a way of putting more money in Bill Hollowell's pocket. There won't be any discount for pre-registration, nor was there any discount last year.

We had 85 preregistrants last year (full priced, that it) and another 15 at the door. We also had 25 significant others. 125 bodies altogether.

I'll state in advance: my firm plan is to make this second year (2011) my last as organizer. I believe that Jeff will step in, but I can't guarantee that. I don't intend to devote the first five-and-a-half months of every new year to orchestrating a large event. It's a lot of work--extremely satisfying, but a lot of work--and being responsible for an annual event was never my plan. I did that with the Living Blues symposium at Ole Miss for three years and it burned me out. I told Jeff up front that I would do this for two years. This is my second year. Jeff and I are going to do the best damned job we're capable of doing this May. Everything after that is up for grabs.

So if you're putting off attending this year because you'll think Hill Country Harmonica will be around in 2012, that's a gamble.

Please note that the roster currently listed on the homepage....

http://www.hillcountryharmonica.com/home.html

...includes Jimi Lee (who is doing a special lecture on blues grooves) and Shine Turner (my new guitar guy from the Delta, who will be backing y'all up in various small-group jamming contexts).

Jason Ricci has also expressed an interest in coming up from New Orleans.

My #1 tabber, Wayne Snyder (he did the North Mississippi Front-Porch tab and many others), has promised to attend, and to offer a clinic on how to tab harp stuff.

More to come.......
