I got my Manji in C yesterday from Kevin. Once I opened it up I noticed the comb was flush with the front of the reedplate. I loved the feel on it. The Manji comb out of the box is set back slightly and it is much better the way he moved it up. It plays great, draw bends are perfect. I don't overblow so I can't comment on that. The one problem I did have was the 7 and 8 draws choked on me a bit. After Playing for a few minutes I realized it was me and not the harp. I was using too much force on the upper end. It is so responsive I need to back off on it a bit. He got it back to me quick and it was exaclty what I wanted. Give him a shot if you need any work done, I am sure you will be satisfied as I was. He gave me exactly what I wanted even if it wasnt what he uses/likes (he is a Marine Band lover).
On another subject, I also sent him some Special 20's that he is keep and reworking for himself. Kevin and I are complete opposites as far as harps come. He is a huge Marine Band guy and I like Suzukis. He did comment that the Special 20's I sent him were "really F*ed up" and that I might have gotten a bad batch from Hohner.
Thanks again Kevin

I have never said the Manji is a bad harp. I just like the MB, MB Crossover, Mb Deluxe and Sp 20 better. Thats all! I'm a blues man and they do what I like better! IMHO

I dislike the covers on the Manji, they are weak. Beside that: I think it 's a nice harp, but not more then that... ---------- http://www.myspace.com/arnoudbluesharp

@arnoud - you are right about the covers. you have to be careful not to squeeze too hard at the back or you will bend them in a bit.

I agree with with most everything being said here. I bought 3 Manjis, and two needed immediate gapping because they were leaky. After that they played pretty well, and I felt they were the best OTB harp I have played. I then lightly embossed them, and it improved them dramaticaly. I played one at a gig, and hated the tuning, so I completed the customization of one of them, and tuned it to Modified Just, and to be honest, I got busy and have not finished the tuning, so I have not played it since.
As for the covers, I take 2mm X 12mm panhead screws, and replace the three back ones with them. On the center one, I screw it in from the draw plate side and then attach it with a nut. Its very strong after that, and it takes about a minute. ----------

If you leave out the front middle screw, there is enough play in the rest that the front of the comb and the plates can be lined up flush rather than the "rails" protruding above and below the comb ... this is what I've done ... Brendan Power posted this tip here or elsewhere ...
