Can I use a preamp instead of an impedance transformer to maintan a strong signal from my low Zi mic to a high Zi amplifier or is this a very stupid idea? I have a Shure PG57 with an output impedance of 200 ohms. There are no impedance transformers available in my country, so if anyone has any ideas, please share them.

@ mo -joe,. Better to get a good quality step-up transformer, like the Shure A95UF. It is a better choice than a preamp and will be quieter,.you can buy less expensive transformers, but audio quality may suffer.

Mo_Joe, why not just order an Impedance Matching Transformer off the internet... or is that not a possibility?

You could try it (the preamp will most likely also have a hi-Z input if designed for guitar), but you might be able to find a passive, transformer driven, DI box just as easily.
