Where are you going to play it? Can you try it first? Is it your first amp? Can you sell it on ebay or craigslist for the price you'll pay?

I'm not sure about the Standard but i love the Epiphone Valve Jr. The Standard looks a bit bigger with a load more control knobs.

Heres a video of me playing straight up through the Valve Jr so you can get an idea of the sound. I suspect the standard might be even better than the cheaper Jr.

I personally think Epiphone make great harp amps.
If your on a budget don't discount the Jr. its a cracking little amp and very loud for 5w.

I can get a used Valve Standard for under the price of a new Valve Junior. I just didn't know if anyone had any success with the amp and how valuable it might be in a gigging situation. I have a Kalamazoo 2 and love the sound of it. I thought if the valve standard at 15w might be louder and nice sounding, it might be a reasonable buy. I haven't seen them before on ebay and this is actually the first time I have seen one at all, so I have no point for comparison.

Kingo, I'd be willing to bet that Randy Landry of Lone Wolf Blues Company could do(or provide info for)mods to it similar to what he did for the V Jr. That and some better-than-stock tubes, and I'd like to hear it, especially with that 12 on board. When he did my Jr, he also did similar mods to a Peavey Classic 20 that I still have in my possession-it made a dramatic difference. I say go for it. You can contact him thru his site, or drop me a line, and I will give you his email.

From what I read about it, it has a DSP, which you want to override/defeat/whatever. Play thru it first if at all possible-if it doesn't sound remotely good, save your money or buy something tried and true.
